Japan Sea Map and Ocean Survey Birthplace

How far is Ginza, the birthplace of Japan's charts and ocean surveys?
 Let's go around Ginza! ⑰
~ Sendai Bridge, where inspection work started~

"The birthplace of Japan Sea Map and Ocean Survey" is located in the square in front of the government building of the Tokyo National Taxation Bureau.

In 1871, the government thought that it was urgently necessary to develop a chart describing the depth and target of the sea in order for ships to sail safely for shipping and national defense, and created the first sea map for Japan by conducting a marine survey on its own without relying on foreigners.

Since then, in this area, we have inherited the feats of our predecessors, investigated the sea of Japan, maintained sea maps, and supported the development of modern Japan.

In recent years, these operations have been carried over by the Maritime Information Department of the Japan Coast Guard, and have been making international contributions as well as laying the foundation for a maritime nation by publishing world-leading electronic charts and conducting detailed ocean surveys to expand the continental shelf in Japan.

In 2011, when leaving Tsukiji, we decided to pass on this land, which has a long history of 140 years, to future generations as the birthplace.
