"Pottery Buddha Modern Tokoname Ceramics of Ceramics"
At the Takashimaya Historical Museum TOKYO on the 4th floor of the main building of Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C., I saw "Ceramic Ceramics of the Modern Tokoname of Ceramics". Buddha statues made of ceramic sculptures are displayed in one hall, and when I was looking at the calm expression of the Kannon statue, I felt that my heart was relaxed and relieved.
Why was the Buddha statue made by ceramic sculpture at that time? When I asked the curator about the background, it was probably related to the spread of Kannon thought among soldiers while heading to Pacific War, Asia.
Kiyoka Shibayama, one of the leading ceramic sculptors in Showa's Tokoname, sought a place of heart in making Buddha statues in the era of war. In order to save many people, we decided to create a thousand Kannon statues and distribute them free of charge, and the total number of Kannon statues finally presented was 933 bodies.
<Sentai Kannon> At the same time, <Ammunition Kannon> was made in the hope of the safety of the soldiers who went to the war, and was handed to a large number of soldiers in a comfort bag. "After the war, <Ammunition Kannon> was distributed to police officials." I realized that I was prepared to work with life. .
In addition, on the roof of the main building of Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C., 22 pieces of "Ceramic Bench (Moon Chair)" were exhibited at the Osaka Expo 1970, produced by Tokoname Sculpture Group. When I sat down on a chair, there was an elephant-shaped tower house, which is said to have been designed by Togo Murano, and I was able to think about the elephant Takako who was on the roof about 70 years ago.
