Number of public baths in Chuo-ku
As of February 2024, the public baths in Chuo-ku are open with eight public baths. There is no public bath in the same building or the same bathroom, and each public bath has its own personality.
So when was the maximum number of public baths in Chuo-ku? It was Showa 33 (1958). The number of public baths was on the rise as the population increased. I think that the reason why the population of Chuo-ku reached the maximum number of houses five years later than 1953, when the peaked until 2022 was due to permission for public bath business (the photo shows the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library's "Union List").
This "Union Member List" is because Mr. Aburamoto, who was a public bath in Muramatsucho (Higashinihombashi), Chuo-ku, was donated (the name is Horeyu).
It is a valuable book to learn about the history of public baths.
