The relationship between wine and bicycle is interesting!
~496 Winery Event Participation Report @ Ginza NAGANO ~

Hello. It's Hanes.
In the summer season when you can hear footsteps, do you want to go somewhere?
In order to plan the next trip, I'm looking forward to receiving pamphlets from various places at the antenna shop in Chuo-ku and considering where to go.
Some readers of this blog may be planning a trip to Tokyo, including Nihonbashi, Ginza, and Tsukiji.♪

By the way, it is an antenna shop that is often used recently, but the article in April "Rediscovering the charm of" Chuo-ku "from Edo to Reiwa! In Nagasakiya, where Dutch trading post Choichi stayed in the Edo period, we introduced that various exchanges were born at the antenna shop event.
At the end of April, we visited Ginza NAGANO at the end of April to participate in the interesting event "496 Winery 6th Anniversary &" Wind Blowing in Vinyard "Publishing Presentation".

I have visited the antenna shop several times so far, but this is the first time I have visited the event space.
On the second floor of Ginza NAGANO, there is a sightseeing information corner on the left and right of the stairs and an event space inspired by a villa in Nagano.
The event space uses plenty of wood from Nagano Prefecture, and the fact that it is a calm space where you can feel the warmth of wood can be seen from the photo above.

History of the 6th Anniversary of the 496 Winery

As the opening time of the event approached, people who supported 496 wineries (cyclo wineries) and those who are attracting attention to domestic wines such as Nagano began to gather, and a total of about 30 people came to the meeting.
I think that the participants are only those who live in Tokyo, and those who come from nearby prefectures and even Nagano prefecture!
With this situation in mind, I remembered the word "wine is a drink that connects people" that I asked when I contacted 496 Winery.

At the beginning of the event, the owner's wife, Yuko, explained the history leading up to the establishment of the winery.
The winery celebrates its 6th anniversary this year, and its establishment concept is said to have already existed 12 years ago when the owner Noriyuki retired from a professional cycling athlete for about 25 years and turned his life greatly .
In 2014, we started clearing land in Yaehara on the left bank of Chikuma River and planted about 1,200 wine grape seedlings.
Until he obtained a fruit liquor brewing license in 2019 and established a winery, while growing grapes, he went to the training department of Nagano Prefectural Agricultural College and academy for wine producers to learn about the basics of agriculture and winemaking It seems that he was steadily preparing.

Participants enjoy listening to such stories and listening to about 10 kinds of wines brewed by 496 wineries with great care.
The wine label uses tatsunootoshigo, which was named after the dragon year 12 years ago when the second challenge of winemaking began, and dotted drawings based on classical bicycles.

"I'm lucky! As introduced in the four dragon and dragon-related spots in Chuo-ku ", the dragon year is a year of luck!
He said that Tatsuno Otoshigo is said to bring prosperity and good luck, so I listened to the story while thinking that 496 winery's wine would be perfect for a gift.

In addition, there were also wines with a checker flag (black and white checkered flag that informs the end of the race), which means eternal, prosperity, and development, and is said to be auspicious.

However, this is not limited to the studdedness.
Originated from the overtaking race, "Paceut", which uses only one variety or one variety harvested in a single field, derived from a group made to run slowly without timeout on a mountain course of bicycle road racing, You can also see bicycle elements in the name of the wine, such as "Glupet", which is slowly fermented over time than other wines!

In addition, some of the wines sold so far are derived from a two-seater cycling competition, a blend wine "Tandem" using two varieties, and a group chasing that makes use of three varieties of teamwork. There is also a blend wine "Team Patchute", which is admired that cycling term successfully conveys the characteristics of wine.

There are two types of cheese produced by the cheese workshop "Bosqueso Cheese Lab." (Bosqueso Cheese Lab.) in Saku City, Nagano Prefecture, which is filled with such commitments and thoughts as a former professional cycling athlete, There are two types of bread at the shop where you can do it, crackers, etc.

At this event, there were greetings from Mayor Hanaoka, who came to support from Tomi City, teachers and friends of the owner and couple, and there was a mood in a harmonious atmosphere throughout the day.

The Mayor's greeting introduced that Tomi City and neighboring municipalities have been certified as a special public-private wine zone `` Chikuma River Wine Valley '', and that Tomi City wine was offered at the Ise-Shima Summit. While I was in Chuo-ku, I was able to deepen my knowledge of wine in Tomi City.

About 496 Winery, it was explained that it was a winery that appeared in the manga "Marialage God's Drop" and was evaluated by celebrities!
And the stoic character unique to a former professional cycling athlete who has experience as a champion is reflected in winemaking, and the teamwork that his wife warmly supports it is also a feature of 496 winery. It seems to be.

Publishing Presentation of the Wind Blowing in Vinyards

In the second half of the event, the publication presentation of "Wind Blowing in Vinyards" was held.
The venue was filled with laughter, listening to valuable writing secret stories and comments from those who read manuscripts and books.

According to Noriyuki, he did not dare to be aware of the work like a professional novelist, so he completed his own book that made use of the personality of the athletic society.
One of the motivations for writing novels was the desire to have as many people as possible know about wine, bicycle, and their relationship, and to have fun sharing the knowledge they want to talk to.

In Western Europe, it is not so unusual for professional cycling athletes to run a winery after retirement, and the relationship between wine and bicycle seems to be perceived as close.
That said, the world's largest bicycle race "Tour de France", where champagne fights are held at the award ceremony and the wine production area is also incorporated into the course, is inseparable from wine.

However, in Japan, wine and bicycles are still not connected easily.
Therefore, in order to make Japanese people think of the relationship between wine and bicycle as closer, the novel has been devised to set the stage in France, which is famous for wine and road racing.

Just as the wine reflects the soil, weather, and the individuality of the creator, this novel seems to have a unique personality and taste.
The event ended unfortunately, with voices hoping for the continuation, as there may be some publications in the second volume.

Recently, a 496 winery's red wine (mellow) has been offered at a Michelin 1-star French restaurant in Shibuya.
In the future, there may be more and more opportunities to enjoy 496 wineries' wines in Tokyo.
Participating in an event held at the antenna shop for the first time this time, interacting with creators with a unique background, and listening to stories from people who are fans of the wine, the charm of winery who has been worried for a long time I was able to touch directly.

The history of wine and bicycles in Chuo-ku, known to those who know it

From here, it will be an extra edition, but I've started to worry about participating in this event.
That is the history of wine and bicycles in Chuo-ku.
Looking at the history of Chuo-ku, Tsukiji settlement was established shortly after becoming Meiji period since the Edo period, and Tsukiji and surrounding areas became particularly active in exchanges with the United States and Western Europe.
At that time, demand for leather shoes, which were not yet familiar in Japan at the time, increased due to the close settlement, and "[Excursion Series 13th] fashionable from feet ♪ Japanese shoe industry seen in the life of 'successful', as described in detail, the shoe industry started.
So how was the bicycle?

Toshihiko Saito's paper, "The Beginning of Manufacture and Sales of Bicycles in Japan: (Takeuchi) About Jiro Tora Jiro's Achievements" published in 1985, published in Volume 13 of the Society of Traffic History Studies, published in 1985, was the first person to manufacture and sell a tricycle named "bicycle" with the permission of Tokyo Prefecture in May 1870. (Tora.

The "Tokyo Prefectural Documents" referenced by Saito during the survey contains documents that Tora Jiro applied to Tokyo Prefecture on April 29, 1870 for permission to manufacture and sell "bicycles".
At the beginning, you can see the description of the specific location that became the base of bicycle manufacturing, such as "Minamihachimachi Horigomachi Megibei Land Lease Torajiro Shineicho Ichimachi Mejisho Recruiting Kabei Proposal", and the location is It is equivalent to the north side of the current Minato 1-chome intersection.
In other words, Japan's first bicycle was manufactured here in Chuo-ku!

In addition, it is stated in the "Ingenious Procedure Statement" that the motivation for bicycle manufacturing was influenced by vehicles used by foreigners living in settlements in Yokohama and Tsukiji.
This time, I referred to a paper about 40 years ago, but it also contains a list of Nishiki-e with a bicycle.
Saito says, "Ukiyo-e prints originally had news coverage, but during the beginning of the Meiji era, they are increasingly showing media and media functions." It seems interesting to learn how to change the shape and establish it in Japan by comparing woodcuts and paintings of different times.
It has become the history of Chuo-ku that we want to unravel again in the future.

The first thing that came to mind when I heard about the history of wine in Chuo-ku was the "Relics excavated from remain, Tsukiji Foreign Settlement No. 445 in the Akashicho Ruins" in Tangible Cultural Property.
Tsukiji Reservation No. 45, 46, and 47, where these were excavated, are places where the owner was changed from British to French. Some of the excavated relics such as bottles are on display at the local museum (1st floor) in Honnomori Chuou.

In fact, wine began to be distributed as a drink between Japanese people a little later, but in the vicinity of Tsukiji Reservoir, where there was contact with foreigners from an early stage at the level of daily life such as food and drink and transportation, unexpectedly I was able to realize that the history of bicycles and wine was substantial.
Thank you for the 496 Winery's event for creating an opportunity to investigate in this way!

Mrs. and Mrs. Iijima of 496 wineries cooperated in reporting on this event and writing this article.

This year, NHK reported that the buds of wine grapes died in Tomi City, Tateshina Town and Azumino City due to the effects of late frost.
In addition, enormous damage has been confirmed in the field of 496 Winery, and the situation was widely featured in the Shinano Mainichi Shimbun and digital.
Despite such difficult circumstances, I would like to thank you very much for your kind attention and hope to continue to support 496 Winery.
