From March 25 (Mon) to May 31 (Fri), 2024, "Tokimeki's Cloth" Mora "-Indigenous Art of Panama" is being held at Noevia Ginza Gallery. Admission is free. The location is along Namiki-dori St. in Ginza 7-chome.
The photo above is a photo of the venue. The blouse "Mora" worn by indigenous Kuna women living in the Republic of Panama, located in the Gorge connecting the North and South American Continent, famous for the Panama Canal, is decorated with multiple uprique embroidery with fine stitches, and the embroidery itself is also called "Mora". In this exhibition, 2 blouses and 24 multiple upriques are displayed.
"Mora" is made by layering cloth of different colors, cutting it out into a pattern shape, and sewing it. Using red, black, orange, and white as the top cloth, as motifs, various things such as plants, birds and animals, life, events related to religion, geometric patterns, etc. You can also feel the sensibilities and souls unique to the Kuna family. In this exhibition, you will be able to enjoy its charm through the collection of Miyako Miyazaki, a leading expert in Mora research.
