This year's featured event was "Masashi Akikawa's special talk"-Enjoying the collection and enjoyment of making-" held on April 26 (Friday), and the interviewer was held on behalf of Tokyo Art Antique participating stores. Hiroyuki Kawashima, Representative Director of Koyoyama Ryusen-do.

We would like to report from Tokyo Dumbo.

Masafumi Akikawa is a tenor singer who is familiar with us for his song "Become a Thousand Winds", but in recent years he has demonstrated his talent as a sculptor and has been selected for three consecutive years in the Nika Exhibition Sculpture Division. Has been

This work is "Kibori Nanko Statue (Masashige Kusunoki Statue)" which was selected at the Nika Exhibition in 2021.

Akikawa is from Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, in Shikoku, and since childhood, he has been close to the magnificent Danjiri float, which was carved in wood at local festivals. He started wood carving at the age of 43, and he was instructed by a Buddha sculptor to start firmly if he worked on it.

It is said that this work was carved by a technique of digging a work from a single wood, and it took three years to complete it, but because I was doing it as a hobby, I was able to work as much as I wanted.

On the face part, it was carved to the back of the neck under the helmet. He seems to have worked with a specially made sculptor, and it seems fun to devise various things.

The armor string on the back was also carved in very detail, and I felt a sense of dynamism as if the string was moving.

This work was selected for the Nika Exhibition in 2023, and is a colored wood carving work entitled "Tree Carving Frogs and Snakes".

The space just before the frogs and snakes were present on the ring has been dug up, and there is a sense of tension.

Mr. Akikawa also talked about his own wood carving collection. It was impressive that he said that he could feel that both the production of wood carving and the activity as a collector could grow himself.

During the Tokyo Art Antique period, we visited not only the special talks we reported this time, but also many participating stores.

The participating stores of Tokyo Art Antique spread to the detailed maps of Map A, Map B, and Map C in the ART MAP above, and it was a good opportunity to experience art with my wife.

In addition, I was able to relax and enjoy the Nihonbashi and Kyobashi areas by eating in the event area and taking a break at a coffee shop.

I would like to thank the Tokyo Art Antique Executive Committee and the people involved for this opportunity. We look forward to seeing you!
