"Kokan Shiba" Tokaido fifty-Hiroshige isn't it?

There was an errand to visit the Kinomiya Legal Affairs Bureau of Atami City on May 2 to handle my wife's parents' house, and I boarded the Ito Line from Atami. The conversation with the person sitting next to the person started, and in a short time (only 2 minutes) while riding between Atami and Kinomiya, he said, "The destination is" Choi Taku Art Museum "・ Participating in the "53rd Art Book" exhibition ". Choi Qing, named after the museum, is one of China's renowned contemporary Chinese ink painters, Japan's first museum specializing in works. A work that dynamic and densely depicts nature, flora and fauna of China is permanently installed on the first floor of the hotel and is a must-see. As special exhibition, I heard that Kokan Shiba's "53rd Tokaido Painting Book" exhibition was being held until the end of August, so I had no knowledge, but I promised to visit and broke up.

We visited this museum, where Kokan Shiba's "53rd Tokaido Painting Book" exhibition is being held the next day. The venue for this exhibition is far away, so I think it's difficult to visit, but if you go to Ito for sightseeing purposes, we recommend that you visit it by all means. It is a 25-minute walk from Futo Station on the Izukyu Line. If you are a guide, it will be a distance without creation.

The 53rd Tokaido in Kohan

The 53rd Tokaido of Kokan Shiba in Kohan's 53rd Tokaido-Hiroshige?

I was surprised to see the exhibition, not knowing that Hiroshige's 53rd Tokaido painting was based on Kokan Shiba's "53rd Tokaido Painting Book". Did Hiroshige see this picture in the book "The Truth of Kokan Shiba Tokaido fifty-three" at the exhibition? I purchased it, but the person I met on the train was this author, "Tainaka Joun". After reading, I realized that the original picture was that of Kokan Shiba.

①It is not a coincidence that the paintings of both are so similar.

②Since Kohan died in 1818, Hiroshige's "Fifty-three Tokaido" was published in 1833, the idea that Kohan used Hiroshige's paintings as a model for Hiroshige's paintings is not feasible.

③It is said that Hiroshige came up with the aim of drawing Koma-to-events in the inner and back. I was fascinated by the scenic spots along the way, and it is thought that it was the process of the fifty-three production, but why is it very similar to the painting of Jianghan, despite its uniqueness?

Comparison of pictures of Kohan and Hiroshige

Comparison of pictures of Kohan and Hiroshige "Kokan Shiba" is the 53rd Tokaido-Hiroshige?

The 53rd point of Kokan Shiba is Nihonbashi at the starting point of Kyoto, whereas Hiroshige is Nihonbashi starting point and Kyoto Sanjo Ohashi is the end point. Both consist of 55 points, including 53 post stations plus Nihonbashi and Kyoto. The size of Hiroshige's ukiyo-e is 24.2 cm long and 36.7 cm wide, multicolored prints, while Kohan's portrait is a portrait of 23.3 cm long and 18.2 cm wide. In the scene depicting the last Nihonbashi, the land of "Saishu in Kamakura Shichirihama" and the signature of Kohan in Dutch, the signature of Kohan and the name "Haramiro" are stamped.

Hiroshige accompanies as an artist on a journey from the Shogunate to the cormorant `` Hassaku Onma Shinden Ceremony '' to offer horses to the Imperial Court in Kyoto in 1832, and Hiroshige's `` Tokaido 53rd '' was produced based on the sketches on the way at that time. There is a theory that Hiroshige does not actually walk along the Tokaido.

I would like to compare the pictures of both Hakone and Fujisawa to show that they are very similar. Of course, there are some different parts. 。
