I want to be an Edo kid

The architecture of Togo Murano, which continues to live for 40 years after his death.

The Yatsugatake Museum of Art, designed by the master of modern architecture, Togo Murano and the Yatsugatake Museum of Art are being held at the Yatsugatake Museum of Art, designed by architect Togo Murano, 40 years after his death. The Yatsugatake Museum of Art, located on a plateau at an altitude of 1,350m, opened in 1980 as the Hara Village Yatsugatake Museum of Art and Haramura History and Folklore Museum. The novel shape of the continuous dome was designed as a special space for viewing sculptures on the curved surface and paintings on the plane. The lace curtain hanging ceiling on the gallery space gently wrapped the visitors and combined with the soft light poured into the inside, I was impressed by the architecture that warmly welcomed people.

The lecture "Togo Murano Architecture and Thought" by Hiroshi Matsukuma, professor of architecture at Kanagawa University, was very interesting. Professor Matsukuma's words were impressive, saying, "The architecture of Murano is based on the idea of how it can have a positive effect on people's hearts." Murano's architecture is said to have a unique architectural spirit that continues to add newness from a modern perspective while taking advantage of the goodness of style architecture.

The exhibition is only a few remaining, but I hope you will enjoy the space of the Yatsugatake Museum of Art, a masterpiece of Murano's later years.

Chikazo Building

The architecture of Togo Murano, which continues to live for 40 years after the death of the Kinsan Building.

As the architecture of Togo Murano existing in Chuo-ku, Kinsan Building is the first pioneering work that embodyed European modern architectural ideas in Japan. The window frame and the wall were almost the same, and it was said that at that time (1931), it was a novel outer wall. In addition, the ceiling of the first-floor lobby, which stands out with its brightness contrast to the exterior, is also distinctive.

Extension on the south side of Nihonbashi Takashimaya

The construction of Togo Murano, which continues to live for 40 years after the death of the extension on the south side of Nihonbashi Takashimaya

Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. Main Building, a masterpiece of the extension building of Murano that also exists in Chuo-ku. The extension by Togo Murano, which inherits Sadataro Takahashi's design and incorporates modern architectural techniques, boldly adopts glass blocks to create a modern appearance. Murano's architectural spirit is also beautifully expressed on the stairs in the hall. Murano's human love can be felt on the central stairs with a slightly lower steps and the eastern stairs with easy-to-grip handrails so that even kimonos can easily go up and down. And architecture teaches us that humans will continue to live forever by utilizing it.
