It's almost time to be the Sanno Festival
On June 7th (Fri), the Hie-jinja Shrine Sanno Festival will begin. The Sanno Festival, one of the three major festivals in Edo and one of Japan's three major festivals, can be said to be one of Japan's leading festivals. There were two cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the festival will finally come back for the first time in six years.
For those involved in Chuo-ku, the "Shitamachi Union imperial procession" to be held on Sunday, June 9 will be the climax. Eight portable shrine departed from auxiliary shrine Hie-jinja Shrine at 9:20 a.m. and went south. Three units joined at Hatchobori. Floats and 16 portable shrine floats gathered in front of Tokyo Square Garden in Kyobashi depart all at once to the north. We arrived at Nihonbashi around 1:30 pm, turned around here, and the goal is near Takashimaya. The north of Nihonbashi is the shrine parishioner of Kanda Myojin, so the portable shrine related to Hie-jinja Shrine is so far.
It is interesting that the area of the shrine is not the border between the former Nihonbashi Ward and the former Kyobashi Ward.
