The first part of Chuo-ku, a town with a lively first store.

As of 2024, there are a number of restaurants in Japan.
Coffee, hamburgers, steaks, soba, beef bowls, udon really various kinds of things are developed in chains, so you can easily enjoy cheap and high quality products. It's a really good time.

Speaking of Nihonbashi, the starting point of Gokaido
Speaking of Chuo-ku, the city of origins of many long-established stores and department stores

I think that the past correspondents have introduced them so far.
In fact, many restaurants that are developed in chains originate in Chuo-ku.

According to my survey, there are quite a few as shown in the table above (yellow highlights are still in business)
Shops that are currently everywhere in Japan originate here in Chuo-ku.

This time, I would like to talk about these first stores.

Yoshinoya of beef bowl

The first part of Chuo-ku, a town with the first store of beef bowl Yoshinoya and the first store.

Yoshinoya, a well-known restaurant of beef bowls, started in 1899 at a fish market in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. Moved to Tsukiji after the Great Kanto Earthquake, but disappeared after the Great Tokyo Air Raid.

It is said that after the end of the war, they started business at stalls immediately, and in 1947, the Tsukiji store, the first Yoshinoya store, was opened.

As you may know, Tsukiji No. 1 store has been loved for a long time since then.
The store closed in 2018 when the market moved from Tsukiji to Toyosu.

Finally, the long line was formed is new to my memory.

"Happy, easy, delicious" Yoshinoya's beef bowl with three beats
I'm a little happy to say that its origin is Chuo-ku.

Even now, there is a special site on the Yoshinoya website (Tsukiji No. 1 store story special site)
It is easy to imagine that this was a special place for Yoshinoya.

In addition, there is still a stone monument called "Dedicated Yoshinoya" at Namiki Shrine outside Tsukiji.
We are trying to tell the composition that Tsukiji was the place where Yoshinoya first store was located.
Below is a quote from what is written on the monument. If you are a blog reader, I would appreciate it if you could visit the site.

"Here in the land of Tsukiji,
There was a restaurant in Yoshinoya, a beef bowl.
The history of Yoshinoya is the fish shore of Nihonbashi, which once flourished.
  It was opened in 1899.
The name is the birthplace of the founder, Eikichi Matsuda.
It is said to have been named by Yoshinocho, Osaka.
Subsequently, due to the effects of the Great Kanto Earthquake.
In 1926, it was relocated to this area along with the fish shore.
The store was burned down by the Great Tokyo Air Raid.
Immediately after the end of the war, the stalls resumed business.
And in 1959, we opened the Tsukiji No. 1 store.
Initially, the ingredients include seasonal seasonal ingredients and tofu.
  It was included, but
People working in the market order beef bowls.
Because I want to eat beef.
Mizuho Matsuda, the second president of the company.
Improved the menu in response to such thoughts.
We used only more beef and onions to deepen the taste.
I made a simple beef bowl.
This beef bowl is loved very much in the market.
And quickly spread to various places
It became a national food that fills the stomach of Japanese people.
In 2016, the market was relocated again.
"Tsukiji No. 1 Store" has also been relocated.
To many people in this area for a long time
  Thank you for your patronage
  "Happy, good, easy,"
The beef bowl of Yoshinoya is served.
It's exactly the taste brought up in this land."

McDonald's Japan

The first part of Chuo-ku, a town where McDonald's Japan is bustling and the first store is located.

↑The present of the place where the first store was once located

I think many of you know even if you are not a fan of Chuo-ku.
In 1971, the first McDonald's store, which will drastically change the Japanese food culture, will land in Japan.

https://www.mcdonalds.co.jp/campaign/thankyou50th/history/memories/ (hereinafter referred to as “McDonald's Japan Website”) https://www.mcdonalds.co.jp/campaign/thankyou50th/history/memories/

The location of McDonald's' best store in Japan was on the first floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi.
Just a year ago, it was a time when a pedestrian paradise was going to be held on Ginza Street on weekends.

Nowadays, eating and walking is normal, but at that time it was a very strange sight.
After McDonald's landing, it has become commonplace for young people to eat hamburgers in pedestrian paradises.
This is exactly what has changed Japanese culture.

As is the case with Tally's Coffee mentioned later, the first store is Ginza!
There's a thought in every chain store. Ginza is the most influential place in Japan.
It's worth opening the first store in Ginza even if you try to force it, it was the same more than 50 years ago.

At the beginning, McDonald's headquarters seemed to have instructed us to develop a suburban store similar to the United States.
It is said that the founder, Den Fujita, decided to open a store in Ginza, thinking that "Ginza is a popular information dissemination base, and if it becomes a hot topic in Ginza, business will always succeed."

The aim is a big hit.
McDonald's opened a large-scale store in a prime location called Ginza Mitsukoshi, and quickly entered the Japanese market.
Personally, I think it's a bit similar to that paidpay sold hundreds of millions of yen at the beginning of the service a few years ago. First of all, we strongly planted our own brand in the minds of Japanese people with out profit margins.
It is also an episode that tells us that the brand power of the land of Ginza has been powerful since that time.

The first McDonald's store withdrew from Ginza Mitsukoshi in 1984.
After that, I moved the shop to Harumi-dori St., a little far away (that is, it is exactly closed here once).
The first store after the relocation is called "Makudonard Harumi-dori St.", and on the first floor there is a plate marked "the birthplace of McDonald's hamburger", which is widely known that this is the first store.
The first Harumi-dori St. was also closed in 2007 and is now the Ginza Mitsukoshi New Building.

There is currently no indication that the first store was located, and the memory of the first store seems to be fading from people's heads.
There may be many young people who don't know.
Can I set up an explanation board at the Chuo-ku Board of Education? I think

I have taken care of this Harumi-dori St. store when I was young.
That's why I'm glad I went there.
