Knowing the roots of Hie-jinja Shrine after the Sanno Festival (Kawagoe no Maki)
The Sanno Festival in 2024 was held from June 7 to 17. In Chuo-ku, we were excited every day at the Shinko Festival on the 7th, the carrying of miniature shrines on the 8th, and the imperial procession on the 9th. In the middle of Tokyo, I was impressed to see so many people pitching their best at the festival with a common thought up close.
Currently, Hie-jinja Shrine is located in Akasaka (address is Nagatacho), and the auxiliary shrine and Nihonbashi Hie-jinja Shrine is located in Kayabacho, Chuo-ku.
According to the website of Nihonbashi Hie-jinja Shrine, "Nihonbashi Hie-jinja Shrine began when Ieyasu Tokugawa entered Edo Castle in 1590 (1590) and revered Hie Ogami, portable shrine was dedicated by boat to Hatchobori Kitajima (Armoijima) Exorcisehouse" in resting place of portable shrines. " "Sanno resting place of portable shrines" is clearly listed here in the old map of the Edo period "Shinzoe Edo no Zu" (1657).
According to its website, Hie-jinja Shrine in Akasaka says, "Our company enshrines Sanno Shrine as the guardian angel of the town of ancestor patron and Edo in Musashino pioneering Musashino, and in 1478 Michio Ota recommended Kawagoe Sanno Shrine as the god of defense in Edo Castle." This Kawagoe Sanno Shrine is Hie-jinja Shrine (nationally designated important cultural property) located in front of the gate of the large temple "Kitain" in Kawagoe City. During the daytime on a sunny holiday, I went to Kawagoe. Although it is a very small precincts compared to Hie-jinja Shrine in Akasaka, it had a great presence that could not be said because it was a company that continued with Kita-in, which has a deep connection with the Tokugawa family.
It is located in a quiet residential area, about a 15-minute walk from Honkawagoe Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line. Everyone involved in the shrine parishioner area of Hie-jinja Shrine in Akasaka, please go to Kawagoe if you have time!
Next, I would like to visit the further roots of this shrine.
