Placement of public baths in Chuo-ku (maximum number of houses)
In February this year, we told you that the maximum number of public baths in Chuo-ku was 60, but what kind of area did public baths have?
Looking at the 1958 "Union Member List" (pictured) held in the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library, there are many public baths in areas where many residents live and areas with many factories. Nihonbashikakigaracho and Nihonbashihamacho each have four houses, each with the place names at that time, three Tsukishima Nishinaka-dori and four Tsukishima-dori.
Areas with few public baths are areas with few residents, especially commercial areas and office districts. There are 6 Ginza (3 Ginza, 3 Ginza Higashi), and 0 Nihonbashi and Nihonbashikabutocho.
If you look at the layout of the public bath together using the union member list and the house map, you can see where people lived.
