Shimotsuke is a deciduous shrub of the family Rosaceae native to Japan and East Asia. The Japanese name is said to be due to the first discovery in Shimotsuke no Kuni (Tochigi Prefecture). It is also called Kishimotsuke, which means Kimoto, for the herbaceous genus Shimotsuke (also known as Kusashimotsuke) belonging to the same family. The leaf color of the basic species is green, but horticultural varieties that change color according to yellow, orange, season and are useful as color leaves are also produced.              In addition to garden trees and park trees, it is widely used from potted plants to bonsai and cut flowers.
