Tour on the "Edo TOKYO Cruise"
Summer in Nihonbashi River, Kamejima River and Sumida River 2024
This summer is where construction is steadily progressing toward a new view of the Nihonbashi River in 2040. On a 45-minute cruise on the "Edo TOKYO Cruise" day during the rainy season. The course on this day is Nihonbashi Pier - Nishikawabashi Bridge - Nihonbashi River - Kamejima River - Sumida River - Nihonbashi River - Nihonbashi Pier. River Guide's explanation is also fun, and see many highlights and the scenery from the river.
The photo shows a spaceship I met on the Sumida River. While looking at the Sky Tree far away, I saw off crossing Eitai Bridge and Kiyosu Bridge.
The blue sky was visible in the Nihonbashi River.
With the construction of the Metropolitan Expressway, the bridge girder from the entrance of Gofuku Bridge to Edobashi has been removed. The ship sailed from the Nihonbashi Pier passes under Nihonbashi to Gofuku Bridge. From the place where the bridge girder came off, you can see the Tokiwa Bridge Tower, which was made two years ago toward Yaesu.
Memory of the war in the remaining scars
There is a painful mark on the wall under the arch of Nihonbashi. It is a burnt trace that the ship burned when incendiary bombs were dropped during the war. I didn't notice walking on the bridge. The bridge has been experiencing a lot of things for more than 100 years.
From the Kamejima River to the Sumida River under the blue sky
After Kayabacho, the Kamejima River, which is about 1.1 km in length to the Sumida River, goes under the blue sky. In the Edo period, the name of the town where reeds and Yoshi lived was still alive, and plants of the same kind as those of the time are planted on both sides of the river.
Realize the size of the Sumida River
As you approach the Chuo-ohashi Bridge from Tsukuda to the upstream of the Sumida River, depending on the angle, you can see the Sky Tree in the middle of the helmet of Chuo-ohashi Bridge. The captain's skill is applauded.
Messenger, who can usually only be seen in the back, also showed him holding a sailing ship.
I'm heading for Eitai Bridge to follow the traces of the spaceship. You can feel the size of the Sumida River while watching the bridge of the national important cultural property.
The remnants of Edo, the river of boat transportation
In the past, this area had a riverbank dealing with "downhill sake" brought from the top, and sake wholesalers lined up. Ships called Tarumasen and Hishigaki Kaisen were bustling along the Nihonbashi River, Kamejima River, and Sumida River. The stairs on the riverbank seem to have stopped the ship and lifted and lowered luggage. A picture of a ship was drawn on a bridge or balustrade, and I think it was a water transport town.
The end point is Nihonbashi
I came back to Nihonbashi. Looking at the face of the new 10,000 yen bill, the place where Eiichi Shibusawa lived, it feels even bigger when viewed from the Nisshokan side.
The new building under construction is twice as high as 284m after Nihonbashi. I would like to continue watching Nihonbashi, which is still changing until 2040.
Enjoy the view from the river
"Edo TOKYO Cruise" has a 45-minute course and a 60-minute course. There are many other types of courses, such as courses around the Kanda River and sunset cruises, all of which are from Nihonbashi Pier and return to the same place. Please experience Chuo-ku seen from the boat.
