Bon Odori on Tsukuda Island ~ Keep history and tradition ~
Bon Odori, sponsored by the Tsukuda Bon Odori Association for the Protection of History and Tradition, was also held on July 13, 14 and 15 this year.
Today, there are few traditional Bon dances from the Edo period in Tokyo. This is due to the shogunate's strict security policy, and Tsukuda Island Nenbutsu Odori is an old Bon Odori that was allowed to be handed down only in the center of Tokyo. It is designated as Tokyo's designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
As the locals say, "It's not just Bon Odori, Buddhist prayer dance," it is a valuable dance that retains an old-fashioned and rustic taste because it has continued to preserve the tradition without easy change as a memorial service for unrelated Buddhas and turns.
The venue is located in a corner of Tsukuda surrounded by a high-rise apartment, but it is a wonderful place that surpasses the old downtown streets.
I hope you will continue to protect and pass on this wonderful traditional performing art. This Bon Odori is a seemingly valuable dance that conveys the simple taste of the good old days.
