Hiroshige's 53rd publisher, Yasunaga-do, and Sonhachi Takeuchi

Hiroshige was from the first generation to the fifth generation Hiroshige. I didn't know that there were so many.

The father of the first ukiyo-e artist Hiroshige (1797-1858) was the son of Mitsuemon Tanaka, the Tsugaru clan, and was married to the Ando family. Hiroshige was born as the eldest son of Yatsushiro Sugawagishi Sada Fire House Concentric. After the death of his parents, he took over the family, but he changed to the so-called Tokutaro, Gojuemon, and Tokubei to learn the style of the Kano family about Risai Okajima, and also entered the gate of Toyohiro to learn Ukiyo-e. At the age of 27, he retreated his conscience and devoted himself to painting. At the age of 35 in Tenpo 3rd year (1837), he was suddenly fame by drawing the 53rd Tokaido on an order from Takeuchi Yasunaga-do, a picture-soshi wholesaler on Reigishima.

Hiroshige first lived in a rental house in Ogamachi, moved to Tokiwacho Nakahashi Shindo in 1846, and then built in Nakahashi Shindo (next to Kano Nakabashi House) in the summer of Kaei 2 (1849). Moved. Even after the death of the first Hiroshige in 1858, the family seemed to have lived until 1876.

After the first Hiroshige, Shigenobu Taka brother named Hiroshige the second generation and named Hiroshige's adoptive woman "Otatsu" as his wife, but left the house and claimed Ritsuyoshi Kisai.

Tora Taro, a ship carpenter of Fukagawa, was adopted by the kaiseki restaurant "Hyakukawa" in Ukiyokoji, and entered the first Hiroshige around 1855. After the death of the first Hiroshige in 1858, he learned from Hiroshige the second generation and called Shigemasa. When Hiroshige second generation left, he became the son-in-law of the dragon and succeeded Hiroshige third generation. The painting style of Hiroshige in the second generation did not seem to have reached the first Hiroshige.

Kiichiro, who was adopted by the Kikuchi family from the doctor's house, learned from Hiroshige 2nd generation and succeeded Hiroshige Utagawa 4th generation. Under the name of Kiichiro Kikuchi, I draw the picture as attached in "Edo Prefectural Picture Book Customs Traffic Issue" (published by Toyodo in 1905).

Kiichiro Kikuchi's second son, Torazo, made a living while opening a Japanese calligraphy Juku, claiming to be Hiroshige the fifth generation.

Hiroshige and Yasunaga-do, the publisher of "Fifty-three Tokaido"

Hiroshige and the publisher of "Yasunaga-do", Hiroshige's fifty-three Tokaido publisher "Yasunaga-do" and Sonhachi Takeuchi

The ukiyo-e "53rd Tokaido" began with a combination of Hiroshige and PayPay, and Yasunaga-do, a late-established local wholesaler. Although the activity period took a short time, it was a great success, and as the 53rd edition of Hiroshige's Tokaido, Sonpachi Takeuchi became very famous. Sonpachi was born in the first year of Tenmei (1781) as the second son of Sonchi Takeuchi, who runs a pawn shop in Shiomachi, Edo Reigishima, and succeeded the family business as the second generation Son Seven. Under the name of Sonhachi Takeuchi, he entered the publishing business in 1833 (Tempo 4th year), and his father managed the pawnshopper was left to his wife "Pai", and was a great success at one time, including the issuance of the 53rd Tokaido. Yasunaga-do went out of business in a few years. He died at the age of 74 in July 1854.

In addition to Hiroshige's 53rd Tokaido, in 1835, he also published "Kiso Kaido" by Keisai Eiizumi and actor paintings of Kunisadaga. In the New Year of Tenpo 7 (1836), a new sales floor was set up at Minami-Shinbori 1-chome Minatobashi west gate, and business was conducted in two places with home in Shiomachi, but the publishing business was destroyed in the following eight years I am. There is also a work as an artist under the name of "Bizan Takenouchi", and he has published "Sakura of Sumida Tsutsumi in Edo Famous Places" and "Preface) Kyoka selection "Hakai Uta Rokuroku Image Collection" by Shikata Takimizu. (Because we couldn't get the map of the time Sonpachi was alive, we couldn't identify the exact location of the store and home.

When Yasunaga-do issued the fifty-three Tokaido, Hiroshige lived in a rental house in Ogamachi, but Takeuchi Sonpachi's home and store were located near a 20-minute walk. It is assumed that the meeting was quite close.
