10 years after the death of Iwao Akiyama Woodcut Exhibition "Revear, Yamato Fire" in Noevia Ginza Gallery
Ten years have passed since printmaker Iwao Akiyama died at the age of 93 on September 15, 2014. In memory of Mr. Akiyama, "Noevia Ginza Gallery" is being held from September 2 (Mon) to November 1 (Fri), 2024, "10 years after Iwao Akiyama's death, Woodcut Exhibition, Yamagami Fire" is being held. Admission is free.
The above is a photo of the entire venue. In this exhibition, 14 works are on display. Iwao Akiyama was born in 1921 (Daisho 10), grew up in Taketa City, Oita Prefecture, entered the Pacific Art School at the age of 37, studied under Shiko Munakata the following year, and became a member of the Nippon Painting Academy. After that, he met the phrase of Yamatohi and said, "My heart was opened by Yamatohi." He continued to produce woodcuts based on the phrase of Yamatohi, and held many solo exhibitions in Japan and overseas. He produces woodcuts on the theme of animals, birds, folk tales, etc., but his series combined with the phrase of Yamatohi is particularly highly regarded. In this exhibition, a message of the heart that begins with "Revear, Yamagami Fire" is also attached.
Santoka Taneda (Taneda) Real name: Shoichi Taneda is a representative haiku poet of Jiyuku (Haiku with a free rhythm that does not stick to 575). Born in Hofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1882 (Meiji 15), after dropping out of Waseda University, his father opened the sake brewing business and got married, but went bankrupt. My father goes missing and divorces his wife. After that, he left home and went on a wandering journey in 1926 (Daisho 15). With the support of Kumo, he repeated drifting trips and temporary settlements, and in 1940 (Showa 15), he completed his 57-year life due to cerebral hemorrhage at a hermitage in Matsuyama. The Haiku of Santo Fire, who lived in travel, phrase and sake, continues to attract people and has a strong number of fans. It would be nice to see the Haiku of Yamatohi in letters only, but if you look at Akiyama's prints and messages, which express that feeling, I think that the goodness will be further conveyed, so please feel the world of Yamatohi in this exhibition.
