Relocation of the monument to the site of Tsukiji Small Theater
A corner of the buildings of Tsukiji 2-chome. There is a monument to the ruins of the Tsukiji Small Theater, which is fitted on the brick wall on the vertical line between Shin-ohashi-dori St. and Heisei-dori.
This is a theater established by Yoshi Hijikata in Kaoru Osanai and invested his private property in June 1924 (Daisho 13) at Tsukiji 2-5, Kyobashi-ku. This is the first permanent theater in Japan.
This year in 2024 is the 100th anniversary of its opening.
Director Yoshishi Hijikata learned that the Great Kanto Earthquake had occurred in Japan during his study abroad in Europe for theater research, and he hurriedly returned from Germany. Japan was also at a time when building regulations were relaxed for the reconstruction of the earthquake, and it seems that he came up with the idea of building a theater. It was a one-story theater with a high dome-shaped ceiling on a site of about 100 tsubo, and there was also the world's first electric lighting room.
It seems that there was a grape mark at the top of the front of the theater. Yoshi Hijikata himself wrote that grapes were chosen because they were a symbol of the god of Bacchus.
Details can be found on RIEdel's blog.
It's a coincidence.
"From the end of the Taisho era to the Showa era, he greatly contributed to its development as a book for a new drama. It was destroyed by the war."
The book seems to be the meaning of the place.
The monument embedded in the brick wall is said to have been donated to Chuo-ku by the Japan Theater Association in 1977. This explanatory version is in Japanese and English by the Chuo-ku Board of Education.
There was a notice that the store will be closed at the drugstore and 100 yen shop at Tsukiji 2-chome. The adjacent bank suddenly moved to Irifune 3-chome.
The redevelopment of the urban area of Tsukiji 2-chome has been announced. On a site of about 5,000 square meters including the monument, there is an office building with commercial facilities on 21 floors above ground and 3 floors below ground, directly connected to Tokyo Metro Tsukiji Station. A newspaper company contacted the real estate company, which is the center of the development project, as to what would happen to the monument at the site of the Tsukiji Small Theater, but it was said that it was undecided. In the fall, some respondents said they were discussing with Chuo-ku in the direction of relocation. . According to a newspaper, the Chuo-ku Board of Education found that it would be relocated to the redevelopment area and left if it wanted to be able to respond to redevelopment companies in some way.
