About endangered Ginza Sony Park Cape Penguin

On November 11, 2024, photos and explanations of Cape Penguins were posted on the wall of Ginza Sony Park.

The explanation contained the following: (Exhibition "Gakken's Encyclopedia LIVE Pocket Endangered Animals")

Squealing in a rustling voice in the absence of the donkey. It is said that millions of birds lived in the early 20th century. In 1930, 3 million birds inhabited Dassen Island, the largest breeding ground on the Atlantic side of South Africa, but in 1963 it dropped to 140,000. It is believed to be caused by illegal egg collection in breeding grounds. From the late 1960s, many seabirds, including this species, died due to oil spills caused by ship accidents. In addition, many individuals die from sinking and nets due to the development of large-scale fishing methods, and a large amount of fish such as anchovy, which is a food source, are covered by human stomachs. In 2010, the population was ranked from RL=VU to EN.

Class I (CR+EN): Species in danger of extinction

Endangered IA (CR): Extremely high risk of extinction in the wild in the very near future

Endangered IBs (EN): Not as much as IA, but there is a high risk of overcoming in the wild in the near future.

Endangered (VU): Species whose risk of extinction is increasing

Tasmania Devil

Tasmania Devil Ginza Sony Park About Endangered Cape Penguin

On November 27, a photo and explanation of Tasmania Devil was posted. The contents are as follows (Source: "Gakken's Encyclopedia LIVE Pocket Endangered Animals"

They live in forests and wastelands. In the daytime, they rest in underground burrows and work at night to prey on small mammal, reptiles and birds. About 400 years ago, it is said that it also inhabited the continent of Australia, but it was predated by dingo brought by humans and reduced its number, and now lives in Tasmania. Livestock and other animals were then exterminated as harmful animals, but were legally protected in 1941. However, in the 1990s, Devil face tumors became prevalent, resulting in a decrease of more than 60%. It is a type of cancer in which the tumor is transmitted when it comes into contact with each other, and cannot be eaten. Although a conservation program started in 2003, vaccine treatment is expected to take some time and is expected to decrease by more than 60% over the next 10 years.

Greyby zebra

Greyby zebra Ginza Sony Park About Endangered Cape Penguin

Greyby zebra with a cute look. I saw it on the evening of December fourth. The explanation is as follows.

It is the largest species of wild horses and is distributed in Kenya and Ethiopia. It has a characteristic that it is thinner than other zebra. Overfishing and poaching of fur, development of habitat and drought have reduced populations, and hunting was banned in Kenya in 1976. From about 15,600 at the end of the 1970s to about 2,000 in 2004, there has been no major change since then. At present, there is concern that an increase in the number of grazing cattle and other grazing may affect the increase or decrease in available water fields. In addition, the unlimited Ecotourism has adversely affected its actions. (Source Gakken's Encyclopedia LIVE pocket extinct animal)

From now on, I sometimes thought about the animal endangered species.
