Challenge to make "Odawara lanterns" with traditional crafts experience!

On December 14th (Saturday), we participated in a traditional craft experience held at the underground sidewalk of Edo Sakura-dori St. at Nihonbashi Muromachi and Tokyo Metro Mitsukoshimae Station.
This event is entitled "Kaido Expo in Nihonbashi", and among the specialty crafts handed down to the castle towns and post towns of Tokaido, "Edo Kiriko", "Edo folding fan", "Odawara lantern", "Okazaki Japanese candle", and "Hakone parquet" It is an experience program where you can make, paint and enjoy yourself.
All of them are all attractive crafts, but this time we tried to make "Odawara lantern".

This is the entrance of the traditional craft experience event venue on the underground sidewalk of Edo Sakura-dori St. at Mitsukoshimae Station.

Challenge the Creation of Japanese lantern

In making Japanese lantern, we use a wooden pedestal. Wrap a thin stick with a skeleton around the pedestal, fasten it with tape, wrap 12 skeleton sticks, attach a glue to the skeleton and paste Japanese paper.
After pasting the Japanese paper, attach a wooden frame to the top and bottom.
It took about 40 minutes.

When the glue is dry, finally fold the Japanese paper on the side of Japanese lantern with your fingers to fold it.
This is finally completed.

It was a very fun and valuable experience.
Thank you to all the members of the Odawara City Tourism Association Odawara Lantern Production Volunteer Association who taught me.
If I have the opportunity, I would like to try another craft making experience.
