Nihonbashikabutocho, a city of finance and securities.

The guardian angel of the commercial and securities markets is called Kabuto Shrine, located on the north side of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, against the backdrop of the Nihonbashi River.

In the precincts, there is Kabutoiwa, which is the origin of its name.

He has a prayer for victory during the conquest of Oshu by Yoshiie Minamotono (the role of the previous nine years, the Gosannen War), and a tradition related to the Taira no Masakado of the rebellion of Johei.

It has come through many frosts as the object of faith.

Nisshokan

The building next to Kabuto Shrine is the Nisshokan.

It is a landmark of Kabuto-cho built on the site of mansion Eiichi Shibusawa.

Last year, on December 25, 2024, under the Tokyo Metropolitan Scenic Ordinance, it was selected as a "Tokyo Metropolitan Government Selected Historic buildings" as a building with historical value and important landscape.

This is a SRC (steel reinforced concrete) building constructed in 1928, seven floors above ground and one floor below ground.

The outline of the selection is summarized on the website of the Tokyo Metropolitan Urban Development Bureau as follows.

"This is a representative architectural work of the Yokogawa Works established by architect Tamisuke Yokogawa. The large stonework on the base and the massive design of the entrance and the arch windows on the top floor are the building that conveys the historical landscape of Nihonbashikabutocho, where securities companies were lined up.

Indeed, the dignified appearance gives a solid accent to the financial city.

The design designed by Yokogawa Works can be seen in many areas around Nihonbashi, including the former Mitsui Main Building, the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store, and the Nippon Industrial Club.

When you enter the entrance hall, you will be greeted by a solid and calm interior.

The scenes and scenes of stories that would have been unfolded in the building will feel like flashing for a moment.

By summarizing the structure of the ceiling in white, combined with the lighting equipment reminiscent of gas lamps, it creates a spread and lightness.

Plates of successive buildings are displayed on the wall, so you can understand the connection with Eiichi Shibusawa.

Shibusawa built a mansion designed by Kingo Tatsuno in 1888 and used it as an office.

It is said that Shibusawa was working in the office study at the time of the Great Kanto Earthquake on September 1, 1923.

I was safe after evacuating, but the office was burned down.

Since then, buildings with increased fire resistance and earthquake resistance have been built.

After renovating the office space on the first floor, the chocolate & ice cream shop "teal (Tyr)" opened in 2021.

Well, what a fashionable store!

He broke the image of Kabuto-cho that I had.

When you are a little tired after a walk, carry a juice-filled gelato to your mouth and you will just smile.

In December last year, a new space was opened on the first floor to match the selection of the Tokyo Metropolitan Historic buildings.

A facility that combines a lab "nib" that explores new possibilities for cacao and a fragrance lobby.

I thought it was a supple phrase "cacao ...", but I was surprised that it made me feel "cacao is an interesting material."

The number of stop-by places for walks on holidays has increased by one again.

"Matsuyoshi" was responsible for the auspiciousness of eel climbing. It's a long-established eel shop.

There are no stores anymore, but they left them on the plate.

It is a testament to convey the spirit of people involved in town planning in Nihonbashikabutocho.
