1965: Visit to Akane Gallery
Enjoy the painting in a super-at home atmosphere!
The other day, I had the opportunity to meet Mayuko Uchida, Vice Chairman of the Tokyo Shiga Kenjinkai at an event of "Koko Shiga" in Nihonbashi. Mr. Uchida was the manager of the Akane Gallery in Ginza, so he asked, "Can I go to Akane Gallery this time?" Mr. Uchida is a multi-person who is also a plenipotent ambassador to promote Oomi tea in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
"Take-chan" has no knowledge of art and is almost beginner level when it comes to painting. I know there are many galleries in Ginza, but I don't have the courage to enter the gallery, so I hesitate to enter the entrance even if I go to the entrance. Even if I'm a beginner in art, it's amazing to take a step into "Akane Gallery". I was able to calm down and appreciate the paintings in a super homey atmosphere.
Tomoko Yuki and Osamu Nakajima Exhibition
Exhibition Period: February 24 (Mon) to March 2 (Sun), 2025
The day of the interview is the last day of the exhibition. Tomoko Yuki and Osamu Nakajima, who are painting with couples, also came to Akane Gallery. Tomoko Yuki was based on the theme of "My favorite things", focusing on items that I love around me. Osamu Nakajima draws vegetation and life on the theme of "daily everyday". We talked about the exhibition for the first time in a long time with the couple.
I heard a story from Tomoko Yuki
Yuki also draws a picture called a series of 100 animals. This is a series that depicts Yuki's favorite animals, such as 100 cats, pandas and chameleons in one picture. My favorite creature is frogs. There is also a picture about snakes and frogs. In this picture, frogs that are usually eaten by snakes have become leaders.
Yuki says that watercolor paintings are not arranged in exhibitions. This time, paintings depicting important figurines and collections were displayed. Yuki loves animal figurines and says, "I'll buy a lot of things." There was also a picture based on the music box of "Merry Gorland", but it seems that I liked this and bought it.
In addition, a real Kaba painting. "Momo" is popular at Nagasaki Bio Park. Now I grew up in a fine hippowder, but the first artificial nursing in Japan. At first, it was called "hipba that cannot swim" because of the water, but it seems that it is a picture drawn by a documentary program that raised "hipba that could not swim" alone by the breeder.
All the pictures were full of kindness, and when I looked at them, tears came out.
I heard from Osamu Nakajima.
The first thing Mr. Nakajima explained was the observation diary of plants. It is said that records of daily plant growth were drawn at different times every day. It seems that the picture changes depending on the intensity of the sun, the state of the shadow, and the weather. There are various flower pots, so on many days I draw three pieces, and there are days when I do not write. I could read from Mr. Nakajima's picture that the buds bloomed, became flowers, and became fruitful. One picture is about the size of a postcard, but 108 pieces are one piece by one on a large paper (220 cm long x 97 cm wide).
There was also a work about your bookshelf. The spine of each book is written in very fine letters. This is a work where you can feel the hobby of books by Mr. Nakajima, who is also a reader.
There were also works based on the entrance ceremony of the school and athletic meet. It is said that the entrance ceremony picture is drawn in about 40 minutes from the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony. For more than 10 years, I have been drawing events at the same school.
Nakajima's picture was like a diary, and it was a fun picture to see, as a diary was drawn in a picture instead of a letter.
Allegory of Paradise—Prayer—/ Tomoko Yuki
This work is a picture drawn by Yuki on the subject of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Sunflower is a representative flower of Ukraine. People who are suffering and tanks are also depicted. The skeleton is the soul of the dead man. Earthly Branches is drawn in the picture, and each animal seems to have a meaning. Mr. Yuki said, "Gather your strength and peace quickly." I heard that it was a very large round picture (160 x 260 cm), but I concentrated on drawing in about two months with the goal of the exhibition.
From a single sunflower seed spring / Summer / Osamu Nakajima
An observation diary of plants drawn by Nakajima. The picture seems to change depending on the intensity of the sun, the state of the shadow, and the weather, so please take a look closely.
We asked Mayuko Uchida about the history of Akane Gallery.
Akane Gallery was established 60 years ago by Uchida's husband's father. "At first, I was worried about whether to open the gallery at Ginza Chuo-dori or Namiki-dori St., and finally chose Namiki-dori St.. If you were on Ginza Chuo-dori, the rent would be high and you may not have continued until today. In that sense, Namiki-dori St.'s choice was right. "In Ginza, husbands who are economically afforded supported art, and many artists grew up in that environment. My father-in-law also established Akane Gallery because of his strong desire to support artists and culture,” Uchida said.
I heard that the area where art galleries gather so many are rare in Japan, and that Akane Gallery was the first to adopt a rental gallery system in Ginza. Visitors to the gallery seem to be various, such as those who paint, those who come every week, and the friends of the writer. Akane Gallery was able to miraculously avoid the rough waves of redevelopment. It is said that many galleries have left Ginza compared to peak times. I hope you will stay at Namiki-dori St. forever, supported by the works of wonderful writers every week.
