Institute of Land and Culture Open Seminar

On July 29, an open seminar of the National Institute for Land and Culture was held at Nihonbashihamacho F Tower Plaza. In addition to the 120 people who were full at the venue, 40 people who were connected at local TV conferences participated.

The National Institute for Land and Culture of the National Institute of Construction Technology, Ltd., holds an open seminar on land and people's lives on an irregular basis, focusing on civil engineering-related technologies every year, and this is the 16th time.

Lecturer of this seminar was Daijiro Kitakawa, Investigator of Cultural Foundation, Agency for Cultural Resources Utilization Division.

Under the title of "Tokyo's Urban Design Trajectory", the history of developing various infrastructures such as modernization of cities and road traffic networks with the goal of holding the 1940 phantom Tokyo Olympics and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He explained while showing the current photos and materials.

What is common in the past two times is that the Olympics have been held with the concept of "modernization (the emergence of national violence)," "national management and urban development by technocrat", and "expression and realization with advanced technology". It was going forward.

Unfortunately, the 1940 Games were canceled, but we were able to realize the Metropolitan Beautification Campaign, the 2nd Keihin Overpass (Hibikibashi), and landfills and Kachidokibashi Bridge as part of the harbor business.

When the 1964 tournament is scheduled to be held, the development of Tama New Town with a view to the post-war tournament, and the construction of the Metropolitan High School will begin in earnest with the opening of technology from before the war. In addition, pre-war military land and royal assets were diverted to sports facilities and hotels.

In 1959, the "Neo Tokyo Plan" centered on Tokyo Bay was also planned, reminiscent of Katsuhiro Otomo's manga "AKIRA" (see figure below).

Starting with the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, subsequent tournaments in countries where the so-called GDP was much lower than the United States, such as Mexico, Moscow, and Seoul, were one of the major objectives of `` emergence of national violence ⇒ development '' Was. From the 1984 Los Olympics, "commercialism" also appeared. For the first time in London in 2012, the concept of "legacy (now ⇒ sustainability for the future)" was launched.

So what will happen at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020?

With the goal of a mature city, efforts have been made to realize new technologies as hardware. For example, hydrogen society, flying cars, no utility poles, and maintenance of outer ring roads (issues from 1964).

There is only one year left, but with the Olympic Games held, we will be able to reaffirm the rich legacy of Tokyo and disseminate it to the world while maintaining and continuing the appeal of each region for the past ⇒ present ⇒ future. I hope that it will be an Olympic Games with a rich software aspect.

"Dobo Expo," Information on National Land and Culture Research Institute Open Seminar

In August 2016, the Japan Society of Civil Engineers opened an online civil engineering museum (commonly known as Dobo Expo).

The Dobo Expo looks like the entire earth as a civil engineering museum, and uses its own video works and digital archives owned by the civil engineering library to explore the appeal of the civil engineering world.

Catchphrase: "The usual town will become a museum."

The "River Exhibition" will begin on August 8th.

You can see a 2-minute notice video. ⇒https://vimeo.com/346653412

You will be fascinated by the images of the beautiful earth and rivers of Japan. There is also a drone video of a dam in the Tone River water system.
