The sidewalk in Chuo-ku is interesting! 28 [Bakurocho]

Hello, this is Minato kid.
Today, I would like to introduce interesting tiles on the sidewalk that I found in Bakurocho. A tile with the name of the town "Bakurocho" was embedded in the pavement of the sidewalk.

"Bakurocho" was a town where many Hakuro lived in the old days of the Edo period. Hakuro is the people who appraisal horses, buy, sell, and mediate. The horse was responsible for carrying luggage along the people's journey.
Bakurocho is next to Otemmacho and Kodemmacho, and all of these towns are towns that used to take over horses. Hakuro is also called Hakuraku, and it was called "Hakuraku → Bakuro" town, and later it came to be written as Bakurocho.

When the mansion of Kanto-gun was set up at the base of Asakusabashi, Hatagoya gradually became established in Bakurocho. Around this time, Yokoyamacho was famous as a wholesale district, so tourists seeking purchases and souvenirs from Edo used Hatagoya in Bakurocho.
Hiroshige Utagawa depicts the famous Edo Hundred Views "Baba of Bakurocho Hatsune". Hatsune Mori Shrine was founded in the Kamakura period, and was originally enshrined there before the county mansion was set up. Now we moved to Higashinihombashi, rebuilt on the second floor of the building, and there is a torii gate in front of the building.

The name of the town that tells the history of the town. I feel the pride of the people and their attachment to the town. The fact that such a "spirit" is also reflected on the sidewalk, the sidewalk in Chuo-ku is interesting!
When you walk in Bakurocho, be sure to look for it!

※Right now, we are working on construction nearby, so please be careful when walking.
