Great Tokyo Reconstruction Model (1929)
I went to the "Tokyo Bridge and Civil Engineering Exhibition" (sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Construction) held at Shinjuku Station West Exit Plaza event corner from August 28 to August 31, 2019. Not only the bridges over the Sumida River, but also many panels and models of bridges in Tokyo were displayed.
What caught my eye most was the "Great Tokyo Reconstruction Model" (produced by Shimazu Seisakusho), which was exhibited at the "Teito Reconstruction Exhibition" hosted by the Tokyo Municipal Government Research Council in 1929. This is a three-dimensional model of a scale of 1/5,000, in which the terrain is expressed and the streets, architecture, bridges, etc. are made in detail. It’s more powerful than you see on the map. It is the collection of the reconstruction memorial hall. You can watch the elaborate model all the time.
In addition, the “Yamanote Line 29 Station yard model” (scale 1/500) created by Showa Women's University Tamura Laboratory was also a highlight.
