Kobikicho

At the end of the book "Monoshiri Encyclopedia", there is an article called "Old Town Name", which was reorganized or lost due to the enforcement of the "Law Concerning Housing Indication" (May 1962), and its timing and origin are introduced.

Here, regarding "Ginza Higashi", which is the "old town name", "For the purpose of processing the remaining soil after the war, the digging (Mitsuma Horikawa) flowing between Kibori-cho and Ginza on the east side of Ginza was reclaimed, and Ginza was connected to the ground, and Kibiki-cho was renamed "Ginza East" and explained to Ginza Nishi on the west side of Ginza.

If you read this alone, you can't understand how much the "old town name" called "Kinbiki-cho" has spread and history.

However, in Monoshiri Encyclopedia (issued in October 2018), on page 51, Shozan Sakuma's military school was near Kibikicho 5-chome (currently Ginza 6-chome), and Kano painting schools It is stated that one of the schools was located in Kibikicho, the current Ginza 5-chome. And considering the fact that Kabukiza is located in the current Ginza 4-chome, if you read the Monoshiri Encyclopedia carefully, you can see that the "Old town name" called "Kiboricho" was not about a small area, but rather about a vast area.

"Kinbiki-cho" is the whole of "Ginza Higashi" in "Monoshiri Encyclopedia" on page 197, "Chuo-ku Housing Indication Implementation Map", and the north is under Showa-dori (Kibikicho 1-chome), the southern part is the old intersection of Nagikake Bridge, which is still under the capital height in front of Shiodome, is the old capital city of Higashitaka, Higashitaka.

The current Shimbashi Enbujo was Kibikicho 6-chome (currently Ginza 6-chome), and the current location of Ginza Blossom was Kibikicho 2-chome.

The details of the change of the name of Kobikicho (1951) in 1951 are described by Saiden Stecker ("Standing Tokyo").

"It seems that the back street on the east side of Ginza was not very lively. Sanjumabori was located between the Shochiku entertainment district and Ginza, but this canal was completely reclaimed around 1950, and various shops were opened on the land. There is a pachinko parlor, a drinker, a cabaret, and even a strip hut."

"The reclamation of Sanjukenbori also resulted in unexpected results at first. Thanks to the reclamation, the entertainment district on the east side of Ginza became close to Ginza and eventually absorbed into Ginza. "

"Most attempts to resist the change of street name (around 1965) saw no success. At times, there are many cases where opinions are divided among residents. Kibiki-cho, located on the east side of Ginza, still has Kabukiza theaters, but in the history of Edo's play, it was as important as anywhere in the city. People who value history and value their dreams wanted to leave this name, but merchants and businessmen thought that it would be more convenient for business to include the name "Ginza", and in the end, "Kinbikicho" disappeared and changed to "Ginza Higashi" (actually, this is a story before the rationalization of street names and addresses began systematically, and as a result of this new "ration", the whole area has changed to "east").

As explained in the Monoshiri Encyclopedia, the "old place name" called "Ginza Nishi" was used from 1930 to 1968, while the "old place name" "Ginza Higashi" was only used from 1951 to 1969, and the "historical origin of the old town name" and "historical name" were listed as "historiic origin".
