Shinohashi

Shin-ohashi Bridge is the third oldest bridge in the Sumida River after Senjuohashi and Ryogoku Bridge, which is the third oldest bridge. It connects 2-chome Nihonbashihama-cho, Chuo-ku and 1-chome, Shin-Ohashi, Koto-ku.

There are two types of name "Shinohashi": the theory that Senjuohashi is "new" and the theory that it is "new" based on the old name of Ryogoku Bridge (Ohashi).

It was first built in 1693 (1693), and in 178 years until it became a wooden bridge in 1871, it was damaged, washed away, and burned more than 20 times. It is said that fire prevention and flood control were obligated as bridges maintained by townspeople in 1744 (1744).

The Pratt Truss Bridge, which was built in 1912 (1912), is covered with iron plates, and at the time of the Great Kanto Earthquake that occurred in 1923 (1923), it was the only bridge over the Sumida River. It was also called "help bridge" and "help bridge" because it saved many lives. At that time, many people evacuated to this bridge with luggage, but as the fire approached, police officers present said that the luggage could cause the fire to burn, throwing it away from the bridge to the river. It is said that it prevented.

In addition, Hashizume Square using the main pillar and a part of the railing is made at the lower part of the Koto-ku side.

Shinohashi subsequently repaired and reinforced it, but the abutment was severely subsidence, and was replaced by the current Shaping Bridge in November 1976 (1976).
