Miguru Shrine on Mukaijima Island

This is Edamame, a correspondent with children.♪

I'm going out of Chuo-ku today and going out outside the city.

I'm going to see you.

If you write in kanji, "Sankai Shrine".

Do you know everyone?

I guess the senior correspondent had taken up before.

http://tokuhain.chuo-kanko.or.jp/archive/2016/06/post-3452.html

The shrine is enshrined on the roof of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store and Ginza Mitsukoshi.

That's the guardian angel of the Mitsui family.

It is a shrine whose name is listed even when visiting shrines in Chuo-ku.

However, it was originally enshrined from a shrine in another place.

I didn't study hard. I'm sorry.

That's why I have a day off.

I got out of Chuo-ku and went to Sankai Shrine in Mukojima, Sumida-ku.

History of Sankai Shrine in the first place

History of "Sankai Shrine" in the first place "Mikai Shrine" in Mukaijima

Let's review the basic data before going out.

"... When the monk Genkei of Sani-ji Temple in Oomi-kuni came to this area, he heard the story of a small shrine.

When I dug to rebuild the shrine, a pot was excavated.

Among them was image of deity, an old man who straddled a white fox with a jewel in his right hand and rice in his left hand.

At this time the white fox appeared out of nowhere and died three times around the image of deity. ・・・」

It seems that this story is the origin of the name "Miguri".

"In Genroku 6 (1693), during the drought, the poet Sokaku came here by accident and came here.

By the pity of the locals, on behalf of those who begged this God for rain,

He said, "If it is a god who looks at the two places and fields," he said in front of the god, and saw the rain the next day.

For this reason, the name of this shrine has become widespread."

The monument still remains on the grounds.

Mitsui Family and Sankai Shrine

So why did the Mitsui family come to worship Sankai Shrine?

One is that when viewed from the Nihonbashi area where Mitsui Echigoya was located, Sankai Shrine on Mukaijima was in the direction of unlucky direction.

So it seems that it was believed that it would prevent the Mitsui family from getting bad luck.

In addition, the word "I" of Mitsui is wrapped around in a square.

Therefore, it seems that it was thought that it would protect Mitsui.

That's why the rooftop of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store and Ginza Mitsukoshi is on the roof of Ginza Mitsukoshi.

It is still worshiped as the guardian deity of the Mitsui family.

"Mitsui" in Sankai Shrine

By the way, there were a lot of Mitsui family members in the actual Sankai Shrine, so it is an introduction.

First of all, the side of the monument of the large "Sankai Shrine" at the entrance.

It's a bit difficult to understand if it's a picture.

There was a name "Takamine Mitsui (Takamine)".

https://www.mitsuipr.com/history/columns/022/

This is the name of the person who was the head of the Mitsui family from the middle of the Meiji era to the early Showa era, which is said to be the most prosperous period of the Mitsui family.

It seems that he was also famous as a cultural person.

And after passing through the first torii gate, there was the name of the person who donated during the repair of the shrine.

There were many names of individual donors.

(As expected, I will omit it.)

At the beginning of this monument is the name of Hachiroemon Mitsui.

Hachiroemon Mitsui ... The name that the head of the Mitsui family has inherited from generation to generation.

And then, there are many companies named "Mitsui".

This is still an important place for the Mitsui Group companies.

When you get closer to the main shrine.

"...The Lion of Mitsukoshi!"

That's right. It's real.

In 2009, Ikebukuro Mitsukoshi was closed.

At that time, the Lion who was there came to Sankai Shrine.

After all, this is probably due to the deep relationship between Mitsui Echigoya = Mitsukoshi and Sankai Shrine.

In addition, there is also the Kenmei Reisha, a ancestral spirit shrine dedicated to the spirits of the ancestors of the Mitsui family.

It seems that the fox on the precincts was also dedicated by Mitsui Echigoya during the Edo period.

I was able to understand that it is an important place for the Mitsui family and the current Mitsui Group.

The footprints of Ousuke Hibi in the "Department Store Declaration"

The footprints of Ousuke Hibi in the "Department Store Declaration" are also "Miguri Shrine" on Mukaijima Island.

"Ishigaki's Koishi Oishi Mochiai Hite

Miyo is the color of Matsugae, which is unrelentless."

Near the entrance there was a poetry monument in the shape of an embedded stone wall.

Misao Hibi. Midan is the issue, and his real name is Ousuke Hibi.

Mitsui Echigoya, which was a kimono store, was

In 1904, the department store declaration was made, and the first department store in Japan began its journey as a department store.

・・・ That is also described in the official text of the Chuo-ku Tourism Certification.

The senior managing director at the time of the declaration was Ousuke Hibi.

He later became chairman and made great achievements in Mitsukoshi's management reform.

By the way, this person who loved lions tried to put a "Lion statue" at the storefront in Mitsukoshi.

Sankai Shrine, where you can feel the history of the Mitsui family here and there.

It's just a short distance from the Sky Tree.

It might be a good idea to go a little off when you go there.
