■Chuo-ku History Shoyo <11> 160 Years after Yoshida Shoin's death-Kozukahara Kaikoin, Shoin Shrine-
At Jisshi Park in Nihonbashikodenmacho, there is a monument to the end of Yoshida Shoin (pictured). This was the place where the "Temmacho prison" was located in the Edo period. Yoshida Shoin was imprisoned and executed in Ansei's prison on October 27, 1859 (November 21, 1859). Sometimes she was 30 years old. The monument is engraved with "The body must be kept in Nobe of Musashi without decaying."
Today, 160 years after the execution, I would like to visit the historic sites of Yoshida Shoin in the 23 wards.
Kozukahara Kaikoin (Arakawa-ku), where comrades who were buried after execution and scattered together in Ansei's prison are buried. Shoin Shrine (Setagaya-ku) was rebuilt by a student at a separate residence in the feudal lord of the Choshu Mohri Domain.

It is said that the headquarters Kaikoin was founded in 1667 to memorialize prisoners and others. In the past, it was a separate hospital of the head office Kaikoin, but now it is independent.
The prisoners executed in Ansei's prison were buried in Kaikoin as sinners of political prisoners. Here there are three tombs of Yoshida Shoin, Sanai Hashimoto and Yori Miki Saburo, all of which are registered as Arakawa-ku cultural properties.
Yoshida Shoin's tomb was rebuilt in Wakabayashi, Setagaya-ku by Shinsaku Takasugi and others in 1863, and Shoin Shrine was erected.
It is said that Genshiro Sugita and Ryotaku Maeno and others attended the conviction of the dead at Kozukahara Prison, and then translated the Demolition Shinsho. There is a "Kansei Monument" at the entrance of main hall.
