[Ginza 8-chome] The story in the capsule
"Central Bank Capsule Tower Building"

The central bank capsule tower building designed by Kisho Kurokawa, located along Kaigan-dori
, Ginza 8-chome.
I've seen an impressive look many times, but what is going on in it?

The latest version of the Capsule Tower Book will be released this fall.
I was looking forward to the completion of the book, and this article was published at the beginning of this month.

A tour of the Central Bank Capsule Tower Building (September 2020) to enjoy the world of metabolism architecture

The concept of the building, the metabolism and the structure of the building, are often explained in detail by Mr. Shibata.

This time, I would like to introduce the activities of the Central Bank Capsule Tower Building Preservation and Regeneration Project, which produces capsule-related books and organizes this tour tour.

What is the Central Bank Capsule Tower Building Preservation and Regeneration Project?

It was formed by owners and residents in 2014 with the aim of preserving and regenerating the central bank capsule tower building, and is engaged in activities to pass on this historic building to future generations.

We spoke with Tatsuyuki Maeda, the representative of the project. Mr. Maeda was captivated by the capsule, and has 15 of the 140 capsules in the building.

The Preservation and Regeneration Project promotes appropriate repair activities for capsule owners and management associations to maintain the building, and also focuses on public relations activities to disseminate the building. In addition to a tour tour to open the inside of the capsule, since 2018, we have been operating monthly capsules and providing an experience of "living in capsules" to widely convey the appeal of the capsule.

The Central Bank Capsule Tower Building is famous enough to attract enthusiasts from overseas to see it at a glance, but there is no doubt that new fans have increased through the activities of the preservation and regeneration project. He also responds to interviews with various media, and recently it is often used to shoot fashion-related and music videos.

"Monthly Capsule" that can become a resident of capsules

A monthly capsule that has furniture and appliances and rents capsules that are set up like a room in a hotel on a monthly basis. With this plan, you can become a capsule resident even if you don't become an apartment owner.

Currently, two types and seven capsules are in operation: the "MUJI capsule" (top image) coordinated by Muji and the "original capsule", which retains the features of interior and audio at the time of completion in 1972.

"Original capsule" that makes you feel like you slip back in time 48 years ago. The word "retro future" is perfect. In the tour, you will enter the same type of capsule. It was a space like a cockpit or cabin.

In each case, the rent is 120,000 yen (no security deposit key money), including utilities expenses. Showers in the capsule cannot be used, but shower booths for residents in the shared area are available.

In particular, this year it has attracted attention as a space for telework. If you participate in a web conference in the background of a round window, it seems that you will monopolize the topic. By the way, this window is a fixed window.

This special capsule is a "round window sofa capsule" designed by a Ukrainian architect. We are not recruiting monthly capsules now, but we need to repair them, but it is a very nice capsule that combines the scenery seen from the window.

By the way, earlier, the unit of the capsule was described as "doors" because it is a house, but Maeda and residents say that they call it "caps". Drinking a room is "cap-drinking". The story unique to the capsule residents seems interesting, so I would like to hear more.

If anybody lives in a monthly manner, we would like to go to play, so we look forward to hearing from you.

"Central Bank Capsule Style 20 Storys (provisional)" approaching inside capsules

The Central Bank Capsule Tower Building Preservation and Restoration Project is scheduled to publish the third capsule tower book in November this year.

The title is "Central Bank Capsule Style 20 Storys (provisional)". I thoroughly covered the interior and lifestyle of 20 capsules of various types that had never been shown before, and turned the story that came from it into a single book.

How to devise a small space of 10 square meters and how to use it? In recent years, interest in such things has increased, and capsules have changed surprisingly by the hands of residents who have a deep knowledge of art and creativity.

A capsule reborn in Japanese style. Surprisingly, I don't feel very uncomfortable. Originally, the original capsule was designed by Noriaki Kurokawa with the inspiration of the tea room. Certainly, "Enso, Marumado" is often used in Japanese architecture. This capsule may be close to its original form.

The atmosphere has changed so much that it can no longer be considered the same capsule. There is a new window on the side wall. It's a bold renovation that can be made because it's a capsule-type apartment.

I wanted to look into more and more capsules.

CBOJ Capsule Style 20 Storys (provisional), a long-awaited release, was published, and crowdfunding started last month. There are also benefits (returns) that cannot be overlooked for capsule fans.

The period is until September 30. If you are interested, please take a look.

The central bank capsule tower is now amazing!
A publishing project that approaches the inside of capsules that are not usually seen and introduces 20 stories.

This is the Shizuoka Shimbun's Shizuoka Hoso Tokyo branch office completed in 1967. It is one of the metabolism architectures designed by Kenzo Tange, the "Tange of the World" who also studied by Kisho Kurokawa, and is located in Ginza 8-chome, the same as the central bank capsule tower building.

The inside tour is not possible, but jiminie ☆Please refer to the following article for details.

Shizuoka Shimbun, Shizuoka Hoso Tokyo Branch Office Building (September 2018)

On the homepage of Chuo-ku, it was described as "reminiscence of a huge tree", but when you actually go to the building, it seems that "this building may be really alive" (*) It has become.

It's also fun to walk around the town while watching various architectures.

※The bottom of the core cylinder is filled with water, and the plants seem to absorb moisture from the roots and extend toward the sky.
