The moat that has seen the past and present times

The Hamacho River, which is now a culvert, used to be separated from the Kanda River and was a moat that bordered the Okawa (Sumida River).

There was a tributary that went west on the way to the Hamacho River. It is a short moat that begins with Iriebashi. It is said that it was along the south side surrounding the Yoshiwara Yukaku. After the great fire of the Meiryaku era, Yoshihara relocated to Asakusa became a machiya, and most of the moat seemed to have been buried, but only this moat remained.

There were many furnace craftsmen living along the moat, and it was called "Kamagawa Riverside". Due to the need to ship the furnace by boat, it is probable that only this moat remained. The moat, which extends to Ningyocho-dori, seems to have been used as a transportation route for raw materials and materials since Kakigara Ginza was established.

Yokobori is reclaimed, and the Hamacho River is maintained as a green road.

With an old map in hand, I walked around the city while remembering the Edo humanity of a certain era novel and the excellent description of Ichii.
