The past and present Kakigara Ginza and waterway

In 1800, as part of the reform of Kansei, the Ginza system was purified, and Ginza, which strengthened the degree of direct management of the Shogunate, was re-established in Kakigara-cho, the current Ningyocho 1-chome. This Ginza was called "Kakigara Ginza" by people, and lasted for 69 years until the new government's Mint was established in 1869.

A short straight waterway from the Hamacho River to the southwest stretched to Ningyocho Street and functioned in various ways.

In the past, in the early Edo period, as a moat, even if Yoshihara relocated to Asakusa after the great fire of the Meiryaku era, it could not be reclaimed as a riverbank for unloading kilns, and after Kakigaragaru Ginza was established, raw materials and materials It seems that it continued to function as a transportation route.

The trajectory of the waterway called the Kamagawa Riverbank remains as passages between roads and buildings.
