Tokyo Art Antique began in 1998 as the Nihonbashi Kyobashi Art Antique Festival, and was held once or twice a year.
This is the twelfth time since the name was changed to "Tokyo Art Antique" in 2010, and 85 art shops and galleries have been decided to participate (as of April 5).
The Nihonbashi / Kyobashi area in Chuo-ku, Tokyo has been home to approximately 150 specialty stores since the war, including antiques, crafts, Japanese painting, modern paintings, sculptures, and prints. There are few areas in the world where art shops are so dense, and it is a historical art dense area with historical connections with artists, attended by Showa literary writers and celebrities.

Various events are scheduled at participating stores during this period. Please take a look at the link below.

List of events at Tokyo Art Antique 2022

In addition to special exhibitions at participating stores, related events will be held to allow visitors to enjoy art and the Kyobashi and Nihonbashi areas more.

"Chuo FM 84.0", which delivers fun broadcasts to everyone from Tokyo Square Garden B1, which is directly connected to Kyobashi Station.

This year, Chuo FM will rediscover the various charms of the past to the present "Kyobashi" through photos, films, and words provided by many people involved in the Kyobashi area, and will hold a talk event during the Tokyo Art Antique period to discuss and disseminate how to connect and utilize assets such as history, culture and traditions to the future.

The Kyobashi area has regional characteristics different from Ginza and Nihonbashi, and is a very attractive place both historically and culturally.
・A city where you can experience various art and cultures from ancient times to the present day.
・A city where traditional culture and craftsmanship culture that has been preserved and passed down for a long time live.
・A business town where many major, long-established, and excellent companies head office and sales offices are located.
・A city where attention is being redeveloped

The exhibition of young artists will be held in the lobby of Tokyo Square Garden from April 18th to May 27th.

The aim is to create opportunities for workers to come into contact with the arts and culture rooted in the city by having office workers experience the energy of young artists, and also disseminating Tokyo Art Antique on the spot. (Co-organized by Tokyo Square Garden TOKYO CONTEMPORARY KYOBASHI, General Produce / POD Corporation)

"TOKYO YNK" in "Art in Tokyo YNK" is TOKYO YNK = Tokyo ink, taking the acronym for Yaesu, Nihonbashi, and Kyobashi, one of Tokyo's leading business bases.

What I want to value at "Art in Tokyo YNK" is the encounter with young artists who challenge things that cannot be seen but important with art in the era of living together. The new discoveries we encounter there may be a catalyst for rediscovering Kyobashi and Nihonbashi as "a city of art" since ancient times.

Cooperation of local companies

In the Nihonbashi / Kyobashi area, where redevelopment is progressing, local companies have also found value as a "city of art and culture", and efforts centered on arts and culture continue to increase year by year.

As I have introduced in the past, I would like to introduce Mr. Toda's efforts to participate in an event hosted by Chuo FM.

First of all, not only antique shops and galleries in Kyobashi and Nihonbashi, but also the "Antique Street Map" which offers a wealth of introductions to delicious shops.

KYOBASHI ART WALL is a new artist-supporting project with TOKYO CONTEMPORARY KYOBASHI, a project launched by two contemporary art galleries in Kyobashi, Tokyo in 2021, and Toda Construction Co., Ltd. These art initiatives have also led to the introduction of speakers to the Arts and Culture Course, which is organized by Aya Ward Kyobashi, a member of Toda Construction.

The movement of art to enliven the region and strengthen bonds, centering on the Tokyo Art Antique, is expected to further expand.
