The Panama Canal is a canal with a total length of about 80 kilometers that shortcuts (shortcuts) by boat from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
The highest point is 26 meters, and the lock mechanism is used to move up and down the height by boat.

The Onagi River is a canal that runs east-west in Koto-ku, Tokyo, about 5 km long.
Ogibashi Lock Gate is located approximately halfway between the Onagi River, and Arakawa Lock Gate is located a little further on the eastern end of the Onagi River.

In the basin sandwiched between two locks (also known as lock gates), the height of the water surface is controlled so that it is always lower than the sea surface (around 2 meters). It is to protect the area from flood damage.

The locks were built to allow ships to travel inside and outside the basin.

There is an irregular sightseeing boat from Nihonbashi Pier, etc., where you can experience the passage of locks.
There is a promenade along the Onagi River where you can enjoy a walk.

The Toiwa Canal, which connects the Toiwa Canal Kansui Park, known for its beautiful scenery, and Iwase, which once flourished in kitamae-bune. It flows near the Jinzu River toward Toyama Bay. The Nakajima Lock Gate is located about 3 km from the mouth of the Tomiiwa Canal.

In the past, factories were lined up along the Tomiiwa Canal, and materials were transported by boat taking advantage of their location. (* After the completion of canals and locks in 1934, until boat transportation is switched to truck transportation.)
According to the guide I asked, the slope of the canal was moderated and a lock was built so that the ship could sail safely.

Currently, you can experience the passage of the Nakajima lock on a sightseeing boat called the Tomi-Iwamizu Upper Line.
The Toiwa Canal Kansui Park, where the dock is located, is home to the Starbucks Toyama Kansui Park store, which is known for its beautiful scenery.
There is a promenade along the Tomiiwa Canal, where you can see the passage of the Nakajima Lock Gate and the Nakajima Lock Gate Operation Room.

Panama Canal: Gatun lock, Pedro Miguel lock, and Mira Flores lock
Onagi River, Arakawa: Ogibashi Lock Gate, Arakawa Lock Gate
Tomiwa Canal: Nakajima Lock Gate

It is common to all locks in that facilities that allow them to come and visit places with different surface heights by boat.
On the other hand, there were various backgrounds why the height of the water surface was different.
