Yumiko Fukahori
Hakata-ori is a silk fabric that is designated as a national traditional craft.
It was introduced from China to Japan during the Kamakura period, and was widely known as a Japanese folk costume, mainly used for offerings to Edo shogunate and for stage costumes for Kabuki.
HUKAHOYUMI develops items that can add color to modern daily life, using Hakata weaving woven by hand-woven by the designer himself as the main material.
We hope that many people will come into contact with Hakata weaving and feel their texture, color, traditional beauty and evolution.

About the history of Hakata Ori
Hakata Ori is a silk fabric made mainly in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, around the Hakata area.
It is characterized by powerfully driving a thick weft (Yokoito) that combines several thin threads into many warp (Tateto), and since its introduction from China during the Kamakura period, it has developed its own weaving technology.
In the case of hand-woven obi, weave powerfully using a technique called "turn back, three strikes".
It has a unique tension and thickness due to strong driving, and has been often used as a male band as a samurai in the old days and as a wrestler in recent years.
