[Extra] Chuo-ku in Taiwan (Cafe Volume) I found while traveling

COVID-19 infection (COVID-19) is spreading worldwide. As a countermeasure in Japan, leisure facilities and events where a large number of people gather are closed, canceled or postponed, and the Chuo-ku homepage also summarizes the concept of conducting events etc. .

The familiar events that I planned to participate personally are no exception, and I was looking forward to it, but now I would like to try to prevent the spread of infection as much as I can (*). ※This is the official website of the Prime Minister's Office.

On weekends, I looked back on my trip to Taiwan last year while drinking coffee at home.

Coffee boom around the world

In June 2019, I visited a cool cafe in Taipei, where the coffee boom was booming.

VWI by CHADWANG CHAD WANG is the name of a Taiwanese owner named Chad Wang. The notation in Taiwan is Mr.

This is what was in the VWI by CHADWANG.

HARIO V60, a coffee dripper. This is a product from Chuo-ku.
Because it is loved by baristas all over the world, it should not be unusual where you can see it now, but it's nice to find it in a foreign country.

World Bruwards Cup (WBrC)

In the world of coffee, there are several competitions in which skillful baristas compete for that skill. The World Bruworth Cup is one of them, and it is an international tournament where representatives selected from participating countries gather once a year. In this competition, players themselves select manual devices such as drips and presses that do not use mechanical power to compete for extraction techniques.

At the Dublin Games in 2016, Japanese Tetsu Kasuya achieved the feat of winning the first champion in Asia. The driper used by Tetsu Kasuya at that time is HARIO V60. Later, the Kasuya Barista Supervisor series "Kasuya Model" appeared on HARIO products and became popular, so many people may know it.

Chad Wang is the champion of the 2017 Budapest Games of the World Bruworth Cup. In fact, in 2016, when Tetsu Kasuya won the championship, Chad Wang passed the qualifying with the highest score and was on the same stage as the finalist. Chad Wang, who experienced a loss in Dublin, worked hard to get the long-awaited champion the following year. On the tournament homepage at that time, there was a comment that showed that Chad Wang had entered Budapest with unwavering confidence. And Chad Wang is also a user of HARIO V60.

VWI by CHADWANG

Chad Wang, who won the world's best title, was full and opened in 2018 at Cafe VWI by CHADWANG.

It is located on the north side of the Choko/Dinhao area, also known as Ginza in Taipei, on the first step of Fukonan Road. If you know the location by saying that it is opposite the large shopping center, Breeze Center, is surely Taiwan Street.

VWI by CHADWANG doesn't have a prominent sign, but customers were constantly visiting the store.

In an airplane magazine on the way back from Taiwan, I happened to see a page where Chad Wang sent a message. The presence of Chad Wang, who is described as a "man god" in kanji, has become a cultural icon for young people in modern Taiwan.

I also wanted to try the food, but during my stay in Taiwan, I gave up because of my fate of being full.

On this day, we had drip coffee (top image) brewed with V60 and cafe latte. It was a soft drink that made me feel calm.

By the way, what does VWI by CHADWANG mean for “VWI”?

The answer is water.

Vapor (mist/steam) Water (Wed) Ice (ice)

Each character represents the form of water.

Water is the most part of a cup of coffee.
This is a unique idea of Chad Wang, who pays tribute to water, an important element for brewing coffee.

Through the product called V60, I met one wonderful shop and its story again.
I would like to continue to focus on HARIO V60.

The origin of Taiwan's culture that came to Chuo-ku

Speaking of Taiwan in Chuo-ku, "Seihinseikatsu Nihonbashi / eslite nihonbashi" was born in September 2019 with the opening of Coredo Muromachi Terrace. The opening of a store in Nihonbashi, Tokyo for the first time outside the Chinese cultural sphere was also a hot topic. Taiwanese restaurants, Taiwanese tea, and traditional confectionery shops are lined up on the floor, and it is a new spot where you can feel Taiwan culture while staying in Chuo-ku.

eslite is a brand that started from a bookstore in Taipei in 1989, and is a complex select shop that deals with overall lifestyles. The Seishin Atsunan store, located in Taipei's Ginza, is the first store of Seishin, and is also known for its first bookstore in the world to open 24 hours a day. It was a scene that symbolizes the culture of Taipei, a city that does not sleep, but it has been reported that the store will close in May 2020 due to the rebuilding of the occupied property. Where will the relocation destination be?

This is the Seishin Seimei Shoten in Shingi-ku, Taipei. It is located in Matsuyama Bunka Souen Ward (commonly known as Matsuyama Bunsoen Ward), which was renovated and rebuilt on the site of the factory. In addition to life in good quality, the park was a series of sophisticated scenes where no matter where you cut it out. All over Taiwan, there is always an authentic item in the center of hot sites.

A book featuring cafes was piled up at Seishin Station in the underground shopping mall at Taipei Station, indicating the high interest in the coffee boom in Taiwan. Some of them introduced Japanese cafes. There must be many people in Taiwan who want to visit cafes in Tokyo and Chuo Ward. We hope that the day when you can freely travel around the world will come back as soon as possible. With that in mind, I finished drinking coffee.
