[Taste of Chuo-ku] Lunch of the original take-out "Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten"
Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten (Benmatsu) is listed in the Chuo-ku First Monogatari Map published by the Chuo-ku Tourism Association as the birthplace of a specialty store for Orizume cuisine. A long time ago, the restaurant Higuchiya, which flourished on the Nihonbashi Fish Bank, developed into a specialty store for breaking food, is the oldest existing lunch box shop in Japan.
Last time, we announced original goods commemorating the 170th anniversary of our founding, but this time we focused on lunch boxes that are the protagonists of Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten.

Special sales at the factory ended successfully
declaration of a state of emergency was lifted, and the city of Tokyo has gradually returned to life. At the same time, there is concern about the second wave of the epidemic, but the news of business resumption heard from all over the country was a bright topic for the time being.
Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten, a take-out specialty store since the Edo period, continued to operate except for some stores. It seems that lunch procurement was sometimes difficult in the city center under the declaration, so many people may have been saved by the existence of restaurants and retailers that are operating saying "I'm glad I met" .
Until the declaration was lifted, Benmatsu temporarily sold directly at the head office and factory. At the factory in Eiyo, Koto-ku, a limited number of lunch boxes seemed to be popular. Recently, all department stores and supermarkets that handle Benmatsu's lunch boxes have been reopened. Business hours vary depending on the store, so please check when using.
Thanks to the sales outlets in various places in Tokyo, I was able to get the taste of Chuo-ku even outside the ward. Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten, which can be said to be the ancestor of taking home, is compatible with the new lifestyle (*) announced last month, so I would like to take care of you as a strong ally in the era of virus symbiosis in the future. ※This is the website of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
At the food department store
In the basement of Depa, I purchased a classic fold. Benmatsu has a lunch box with the size of the folding box as it is.
Nanroku (Nami Roku) White rice lunch box tax included 1,188 yen
Namiroku is Benmatsu's standard lunch box. It is a signature fold that we recommend first to those who are new to the store. Rice with the scent of Kyogi used in folding boxes has a sense of reward that cannot be said. Trees that have excellent permeability and have a sterilizing effect are natural materials suitable for food packaging, and the raw material of Benmatsu tree is mainly Ezo pine in Hokkaido.
There is also 1,199 yen including red zume (Akazume) tax and 1,037 yen including white rice version (Shirozume) tax.
A versatile player that is easy to eat anytime, anywhere with a height of 3 cm. This compact fold was adopted in a demonstration experiment of a non-contact type depa underground gourmet home delivery business that receives lunch at a home post in April this year.
It's secret. It's awkward.
Akazume contains vegetable sweet boiled (umani), egg ware, kamaboko, mekajiki teriyaki, and ginger hot boiled. Unless there is no bean kinton, it is almost the same as the side dishes of Namiroku, so if you do not eat too much, we recommend this red or white zume. By the way, ginger boiled, which is called Benmatsu's heavyweight, is always included in every lunch box, but this is very delicious and it is not enough to have a lot of rice.
There is also a fold of rice for you. This is red rice.
810 yen including red rice tax.
Red rice with sasage. Since it is in a folding box of a tree, it smells like that thankful forest.
At a supermarket
You can also meet Benmatsu lunch boxes at Meijiya Store and Peacock Store. On this day, I went to Peacock Store.
739 yen including white rice tax and 839 yen including red rice tax.
Because it's a peacock, it's a peacock. Easy to understand is also a first-class product.
Kujaku is an affordable lunch box in a plastic tray. Although there is no scent of the forest, the usual Benmatsu flavor is stain on the side dish. Of course, it also contains ginger simmered. There was a figure of konjac instead of kamaboko. There is a slight difference, but this face is definitely Benmatsu's lunch box.
I made a nice and nice lunch box.
As mentioned in the previous article, on June 16, Japan Post released a special stamp "Edo-Tokyo Series Vol. 1" featuring the old and modern features of Tokyo. In addition to Benmatsu, long-established and famous places in the Nihonbashi area, which is familiar on this correspondent blog, are designed everywhere on stamp sheets. Have you got it yet?

The history of the rich taste that has continued since Edo will continue.
The other day, as usual, when I was listening to Central FM "Hello! RADIO CITY", the eighth president of Nihonbashi Benmatsu Sohonten, appeared as a guest (broadcast on May 13). President Higuchi, who is also active as a specialty lecturer at Chuo Kumin College, was impressed on this day that he seriously conveyed his thoughts of carrying a long-established signboard rather than a toneko.
This spring, "Kobikicho Benmatsu" opposite Kabukiza has ended its 152-year history. A lunch box shop named the same "Benmatsu". Despite being another store, President Higuchi sometimes said that he was sorry to say goodbye. Half is about to pass this year, but how much have you heard of the closure of shops called long-established or famous stores?
Please see the article of Mr. Satoken, a correspondent living in Chuo-ku, about the state of "Kibikicho Benmatsu" when the store is closed. .
Ginza Kiboricho "Benmatsu" closed on April 20 (April 21, 2020)
The rich taste that continues from Edo, Benmatsu's lunch box is not gone. President Higuchi also strongly stated on his website, "We continue to protect the taste of lunch boxes from the Edo period by shaving our souls." The taste of Benmatsu that has not changed since its founding, saying, "Be careful because it is really dark." Please try it at your local sales office.
