[Yaesu] Taikoku Koro, an old gyoza shop for more than 70 years in front of Tokyo Station.
Do you like dumplings? I liked it without knowing it.
I think this is also because two of the three major jumbo dumplings in Tokyo are located in Chuo-ku.
Today, I would like to report on my visit to Tai Kou Rou TOKYO, Thailand Koro in Yaesu, one of the three major jumbo dumplings in Tokyo.
Gyoza at Sakura-dori St.
The Tai Kou Rou TOKYO main store in Yaesu 1-chome is located at Sakura-dori St. from Sotobori-dori St.
Previously, it was operated on Yaesu Street as the Tai Koro Yaesu Main Store in Thailand, but it was relocated to this location following the redevelopment of the area (*), and the specialty gyoza became Tai Kou Rou TOKYO main store from October 2020. If you are a fan of old days and visit for the first time in a while, don't be surprised to see large-scale construction in front of the old store. Thailand Koro is still alive.
※Currently, the “Tokyo Ekimae Yaesu 1-chome East B District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project” (Tokyo Metropolitan Urban Development Bureau website) is in progress.
♪Delicious Chinese restaurant with gyoza
As I mentioned earlier, Thailand Koro in Yaesu is counted as one of Tokyo's three major jumbo gyoza, along with Tenryu in Ginza and Shoryu in Ueno, Taito-ku. Of these, "Tenryu" in Chuo-ku was reported in May 2022.
[Ginza 1-chome] The traditional taste "Ginza Tenryu" (May 2022) at the end of the procession
"Tokyo's three major jumbo dumplings" are all about 12 centimeters in size. The impact of the appearance tends to precede, but there is no other thing common to the gyoza at the three stores, it has a good taste. Continental-style bean paste that does not use garlic, and thick skin that wraps it. The secret of the popularity of each shop is carefully made and hasn't changed for many years.
Tokyo when Thailand Koro was founded
It was in 1949 that Thailand Koro was founded in front of Tokyo Station. In our blog post, the aforementioned "Tenryu" and the Indian restaurant "Nile Restaurant" also started operating in the same year. This year was the year when the “Eating and Drink Business Emergency Measures Ordinance” (promulgated in 1947) aimed at improving the food situation after the war was abolished, and the free sale of alcohol under sales control was lifted. It is also. It seems that the era, which has been extended many times, "except for those who have obtained permission, must not run food and beverage sales," has finally come to an end, and restaurants have opened and reopened in various places.
Let's take a look at the state of Tokyo at that time. There was a photo of the Showa 20s in the "Tokyo Album" (Tokyo Metropolitan Government Official Homepage), which records the days of Tokyo with photographs.
Erased the permanent stalls in Tokyo / 1951 (1951) ※Provided by Tokyo Metropolitan Government
At the peak, more than 13,000 stalls supported the lives of Tokyo residents behind the scenes, but at the end of this year, permanent stalls disappeared from Tokyo.
In addition, on the homepage of Chuo-ku "Know Chuo-ku", you can see the appearance of "Tokyo Station seen from Yaesu Street" taken in 1957 (1957).
According to the "Thailand Koro-like Story", which made an episode at the time of its founding a manga, delicious food was longing for the common people and vitality for tomorrow. Gyoza, which is now synonymous with Thailand's Koro, was made by the first owner from Shandong Province in response to a customer's request that "I can't forget the taste I ate during the Manchurian era." The gyoza has been handed down the spirit of the first generation for over 70 years.
Finally into the store
The interior of the Tai Kou Rou TOKYO main store is modern, and I feel that many days have flowed since the Showa era I saw earlier. The Western-style interior rather than the Chinese style is like a cafe and has a bright atmosphere that is easy for everyone to use.
Let's introduce the menu. First of all, zoom in to the famous gyoza.
4 baked dumplings (baked gyoza) 860 yen including tax x 2 people
It's an appetizing gyoza style. There are 4 and 6 on the menu, so it's easy to adjust the number.
The bean paste that feels the ingredients was very juicy. It is also recommended to change the taste of sauce with Chachi sauce on the table (details later).
Jumbo dumplings are sometimes also called banana dumplings. This is similar to the size and shape of gyoza to fruit bananas, but interestingly, Thailand Koro has a menu of authentic banana gyoza called Kasho gyoza. Desert dumplings using bananas as ingredients. Unfortunately, it was not offered on the day we visited. If you are interested, please try it because it may be lucky if you meet.
Next, I would like to introduce them.
Shanghai Roasted Noodles (Shanghai-style Yakisoba) Tax 1,210 yen
It's so-called ankakeyaki soba. The noodles are thin noodles and soft, and the brown eyes that sometimes appear are delicious.
The ingredients were from the mountains. I also like to use vinegar. Personally, it is a product called "This is what I should ask next after dumplings".
Because of the popular shop, it's full of time here. Reservation is required for dinner time.
Souvenir corner
There is a souvenir corner of Thailand Koro original goods in a stylish shop.
Among them, there was C Hachi sauce that was placed on each table. C Yachi sauce, which is said to be made by the chef for spicy food lovers, is a spicy seasoning that blends eight kinds of ingredients.
594 yen including C Hachiso (Sea Par Jean)
※The bottle in the photo is for display.
It was the back menu of Thailand Koro, known to those who knew it, but when I offered it to customers, I was very pleased and started selling it. C-hachi sauce is a bit different from raw oil. How about a souvenir of Chuo-ku?
