[Taste of Chuo-ku] Memories of Meiji Seika (Part 1)

Hello everyone. I'm Ino, a class B correspondent.

I had plenty of time at home, so I was thinking only about my staple sweets recently.
So this time, I would like to talk about the sweets of Meiji Seika that I liked since I was a child.

Meiji Seika Kaisha, Ltd., after business integration and business reorganization, is now Meiji Co., Ltd., and is headquartered in Kyobashi Edgran. Please note that this article, which looks back on nostalgic memories, uses the old company name that has been used to for many years.

Looking back on the history of Meiji Seika, you will arrive at Eiichi Shibusawa, the theme of the 13th Chuo-ku Tourism Certification, which was scheduled to be held this year, but that is another story.

This is the reason why I decided to write this article.

Some telephone cards that won the Meiji Seika sweepstakes were left at home. It's proof that I ate a lot. Even if sweepstakes that require an application ticket attached to the product, there was no problem with procurement.

It's a pity that I can't show it because of the problem of portrait rights, but it was always a popular person of the day to become a telephone card, the highlight of the prize.

"Kiyu Gumi" is a female volleyball player.
"Kissirish" is a set of 3 pieces of Atsuro Watanabe, Miki Nakatani, and Ryoko Hirosue.
"Fran" is a luxurious 3-piece set with a photo frame type mount by Namie Amuro.

It's a story more than 20 years ago, but I still like sweets.

Chocolate is Meiji♪

"♪ Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate are Meiji". Is it Jun Matsumoto who thinks of listening to this phrase? Or is it Koji Ishizaka? Meiji chocolate, which has a long history, may have memories of all generations. I'm impressed by Akina Nakamori.

The Meiji "Milk Chocolate" was released in 1926 at the end of the Taisho era. My standard is a bite-sized "BOX", and I don't know how many boxes I bought so far.

We are currently conducting a promotion called "Chocolate Daisakusen" with the slogan "Let's make your home time happy and sweet." The package has a lively design.

"Mel Tea Kisss" can be enjoyed only in winter. This season, "Kokumi Caramel Butter" has appeared. Speaking of Meiji caramel, I remember the "Dice Caramel" released in 1927, but now it is a Hokkaido-only "Hokkaido dice caramel" and is gaining new popularity.

In 2020, "Tampact" was launched to support the shortage of protein in modern people. "Milk chocolate" containing milk protein in series such as yogurt and cheese. I feel the essence of Meiji Co., Ltd., which has been integrated into this lineup by Meiji Seika and Meiji Dairy.

The origin of chocolate culture in Chuo-ku

In the Meiji era, we are developing a factory nationwide where you can observe the manufacturing process of sweets and dairy products. At the chocolate factory in Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture, there is a huge signboard in the shape of a plate chocolate called "Big Miruchi", and it was recognized as the Guinness World Record as the "world's largest plastic advertising sign." If this factory was to visit social studies when I was in elementary school, it would be a lifetime memory.

"Hello, Chocolate by meiji," a hands-on facility where you can learn about the charms of cacao and chocolate, opened in 2018 ("Open! "I did it. The door of the plate chocolate on the first floor of the Meiji Kyobashi Building along Kajibashi Street is a landmark.

Until the previous year, there was a chocolate specialty store in Meiji, "100% Chocolate Cafe". What revolutionized was "56 kinds of chocolates" with different tastes, even though simple plate chocolates were simple. At that time, I was surprised at the number of different types. I was able to create a date by combining packages numbered up to 56, so it was useful as an anniversary gift.

The brand of "100% Chocolate Cafe" has ended, but the concept of specialty chocolate that focuses on cacao and its production areas has been passed down to "Meiji The Chocolate /meiji THE Chocolate", which was born in 2014.

In recent years, "Meiji The Chocolate /meiji THE Chocolate" has gained global reputation and recognition, such as exhibiting at a chocolate fair originating in Europe and a festival where famous chocolatiers meet together. After all, "Chocolate is Meiji".

※In light of the spread of COVID-19 infection, lessons and events at "Hello, Chocolate by meiji" have been temporarily suspended. Please refer to each website for information on reopening.

I was born in Showa.

Colorful granular chocolate "Marble" released in 1961. Japan's first sugar coat chocolate has become a long seller celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The extra sticker and the sound of "Pon!" When opening the paper cylinder are still alive.

Among long-selling friends, there is also "Choco Baby" released in 1965. Not only to eat it as it is, but also kneading it into a hot cake or bread dough like a chocolate chip for confectionery and baking it is a recommended way to use it unique to plain milk chocolate.

In July 1969, the U.S. Aerospace Administration spacecraft succeeded in landing on the moon for the first time. "Apollo", which was released the following month, is a small chocolate with a cute combination of strawberries and chocolate.

The "Mushroom Mountain" released in 1975 was newly developed using the production line of "Apollo" circular chocolate. "Mushroom Mountain" is a signboard product that represents the Meiji era along with "Takenoko no Sato". There was also "Suginoko Village".

The biscuit is coated with soft and whipped chocolate. Stick-type chocolate confectionery has representative works by each manufacturer, but the appearance of "franc" has an impact. In addition to the new texture, the commercial characters in the early release were artist routes such as GLAY and Namie Amuro. The package was also chic, and it was different from the previous image of chocolate sweets. Personally, I would like to revive white chocolate.

Well, there are still many memories of sweets other than chocolate, but because it seems a little over calories, I would like to deliver this continuation as the second part next time.
